All About UNICEF

working to improve health safety
education and gender equality around the
world UNICEF is an internationally
recognized organization that is run
solely on voluntary donations hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re learning
more about this humanitarian group and
why we should help can you miss a bit of
the history of UNICEF UNICEF is the
United international children emergency
fund and it started in 1946 just after
the Second World War to help the
children that were affected by the
Second World War so to help reconstruct
and give them shelter food etc we have
four priorities that are health
education protection and equality health
it’s all the immunization programs
hiv/aids as well malaria for education
of course giving quality education to
girls and boys equality and protection
protection mainly for children that are
affected by conflicts and equality for
getting chances to girls and boys and
also to protect children that our use as
slaves so today our that are working in
the sex industry what do you do to try
to reach that goal we have different
programs we are present in 156 countries
and territories at this time so we are
working on emergency situations like
tsunamis or floods so because we are in
156 countries we are already on the
field when those tragedies happen it
seems like a silly question but why help
well we need to make an effort here in
the rich countries to help the countries
that are not as lucky as we are because
there is nine point seven million
children dying every year from
preventable diseases that we are not
dying from anymore in the rich countries
and ten million kids a year is
unacceptable for it
wealth that there is in this world where
does UNICEF get the majority of their
funding we are not getting any funding
from the United Nations sometimes people
think that we are untrue entirely funded
by individual corporations and
government contribution what are some
specific projects around the world that
UNICEF is involved in right now HIV and
AIDS is still a very important public
health issue at this point there is 15
million children orphaned by AIDS in the
world education of course is a huge
priority for UNICEF giving education to
a girl is making sure that this future
women will be able to protect his own
children from diseases will help for
nutrition etc and again in emergency
situation we are working a lot in
refugee camps in Darfur for example
right now in Kenya as well I think
UNICEF is probably best known for the
orange boxes at Halloween how else can
we help the orange box started in 1952
so at the 15th anniversary of the orange
box we thought maybe it’s time to
modernize a little bit the Halloween
campaign right now we are in our spread
the net campaign which is aimed for
malaria in Rwanda and Liberia and we
want to send bed nets to stop the spread
of malaria because malaria is the first
cause of death in Africa for children
under five one net cost $10 so again
kids can raise money
everyone can raise money actually and go
on spread the net dot or to buy nets
thank you very much thank you
