if this is what your camera looks like
we’re probably gonna be friends but if
you’re not like me and don’t have a
bajillion mein saved on your camera you
definitely weren’t know but the divine
and godly power they possess now we all
know what memes are right they’re those
things that we obsessively scroll
through when we’re meant to be doing
that assignment that was due last week
but the real question is are we aware of
the true powers that they behold
because memes don’t just exists for a
personal enjoyment they have this
incredible ability to encapsulate a
situation or idea and spread it to the
corners of the Internet let’s take this
meme for example the beauty of this meme
is a relatable situation we all know
that this guy’s face is how we feel in
an exam or in some cases how we look in
an exam we can relate with that familiar
feeling of excitement stress and
internal screaming that comes with the
last five minutes of an exam which is
what makes this meme so effective people
like knowing that there are others out
there who had just as crazy as they are
but relatable memes give us so much more
as well by sharing a situation through a
meme it shows us is that better to learn
that there are others out there who
would just like them so memes like this
really do give us a sense of belonging
and comfort when we’re feeling stressed
or sad like when you’re in detention for
on your HP uniform at Southbank yes very
sad times indeed now let’s look at
another example the political meme
what’s amazing okay aside from being
super funny political memes like this
one allow us to express our own opinions
and make powerful statements they can
also be used to introduce people into
politics by using that humorous factor
to generate interest I think people are
more likely to remember a funny
political meme or the Rob
a 50-page article on the life and times
of Scott Morrison now I have one more
example to show you the fandom meme okay
I guess if you haven’t read the Maze
Runner or watch the movies this wouldn’t
really make sense but you get the
general idea what’s amazing about fandom
memes is how they allow people to
establish connections with each other
through mutual interests in this case
the Maze Runner even if that means
raging about how most of the characters
in the first book didn’t even make it to
the last book spoiler alert but what I
noticed when writing this talk was that
regardless of the context or type memes
connect people it seems ironic since we
always look at memes on a device but
when you share a meme you always know
that people will respond to it so in a
world ruled by the internet memes really
do help us to make but also strengthen
friendships whether that’s through
laughing about a relatable meme looking
at yet another political meme or simply
raging together about that character in
divergent who should not have been
killed
no spoilers this time sir the next time
you see a meme on social media a website
or even just through a friend
just remember have a little picture and
a bunch of words has the power to change
