The Cure for Bullying in High School | Acme Wasi | TEDxHarwoodUnionHighSchool

listen everyone we have a dilemma look
at the person on your left look at the
person on your right statistics show
that one out of three of students have
been bullied at school that means at
least one of the three of you have been
bullied before bullying is defined as an
attack on a person’s identity
self-esteem and personality the effects
of bullying are shame decreased appetite
irritation aggression and anxiety
bullying can cause students not to come
to school as they are scared
to be tormented or intimidated by a
group of kids when they don’t go to
school they will jeopardize their
academics and their whole future could
be affected scientists have evidence
about the psychology of bullying showing
that the kids who bully others have
complex relationships with their parents
and friends moreover they often don’t
comprehend other people’s emotions
leading them to act aloof or uncaring
and appearing calm in addition studies
have shown that bullying tends to happen
on a daily basis debasing others every
day but I do not think that kids are
born to be bullies instead something
happens at an early age which results in
there are many ways to help stop or end
bullying in schools one example here at
Harwood is a program called a wad a wad
which stands for a world of difference
and is a national program created by the
anti-defamation league in the 1980s in
Boston Massachusetts a world of
difference trains a high school students
to teach younger kids what bullying is
and how we can have equality and respect
in order to end prejudicial acts in the
community another example of a program
is being used in Denmark Danish kids are
learning to be more empathetic because
the schools in Denmark are teaching
younger kids new skills on collaboration
problem-solving respect and caring in
order to support each other studies
highlight that empathy can build more
relationships and it can have more
forgiveness for one another
empathy can make a human being into a
true character here are my words to say
to you all about empathy in a metaphoric
way having empathy is connecting a Lego
piece to another in order for the pieces
in the Lego set to build a powerful
relationship with love thank you [Applause]
