hey guys my name is KNAT Chandra like
Johnny said I’m a curator for the TEDx
youth stage but also this year I had the
great pleasure of curating the fast
ideas so what are fast ideas fast ideas
is where we ask you the audience to come
up on our stage to give share your idea
worth sharing so out of the many entries
and there were a few that were all
amazing we chose the best six so can you
please welcome to the stage the six
participants of past ideas this year
[Applause]
okay are they beautiful
they look great right okay how they
bring you a best of hey do you know you
ready how are you feeling that’s that’s
okay there’s a lot of people that you’ll
be wonderful so how old are you I’m 13
and she’s 13 that actually makes you the
youngest person on our stage today
that’s pretty amazing okay are you ready
yeah okay so there’s 30 seconds on the
clock let’s hear your pitch rescue dogs
are an average five years or older this
is because these dogs are overlooked in
shelters in favor of younger cuter
puppies I suggest that retirement
communities adopt these older rescue
dogs studies have shown that seniors in
contact with pets smile more are more
alert more tolerant and visit fewer
doctors by applying my idea we will be
able to solve two problems in one fell
swoop
let’s find homes for aging dogs and
companions for the elderly
India
how’s how’s it going good how are you
good thank you
so what do you study at uni I study by
molecular science at Macquarie uni
alright I you say it’s like two
syllables it’s amazing three four okay
are you ready okay all right
the effect of fossil fuels is a global
issue
hydrogen fuel is a renewable alternative
but its current production is not cost
or energy efficient what if we could get
this energy in a clean and cheaper way
we can by imitating nature’s use of the
Sun by using synthetic biology to field
new functions we can program bacteria to
photosynthesize and harness sunlight to
make hydrogen let’s use this amazing
technology to draw energy from nature
without harming it and keep our future
green
hey how are you alright great so what
inspired your idea today the thing that
inspired my idea today is the fact of
how many LGBT teens we lose a year to
lack of self acceptance so yeah okay
yeah okay listen LGBT teens are two
times more likely to commit suicide due
to the lack of self acceptance which is
why Maya pick is that we create a an app
code I am me I am me is an app where
LGBT influences can connect to LGBT
teens anonymously so then that way it
doesn’t have to deal with that in
acceptance of themselves this will
improve the loss of LGBT teens and it’s
an amazing platform so thank you
Samara um so your idea is actually about
ads right so are you a bit of an ant
specialist almost I’m an ant venom
specialist more so that’s so exciting
okay I’m sure everyone’s really excited
to hear you bitch I’ll let you take the
stage thank you insect pests are a
problem they transmit diseases such as
malaria and destroyed crops and our
current way of killing them using
insecticides is failing because of
resistance my PhD aims to solve this
problem using ant venom and predate on
other insects and usually kill or
paralyze their prey first using their
venom I am to find the exact compound
that does this as this will provide us
with a novel insecticide that is natural
and effective it will stop the
transmission of diseases and increase
crop yields
hey Nikita okay so really excited to
have you often here so what you normally
do what’s your day job I am actually
working at delight while completing my
degree at unis Dobby oh really all the
boxes okay are you ready okay so how
many of you hear a plane instrument
speak a second language coaxing dance
you are my idea you are 1 2 1 2 is a
talent sharing platform a two-step
process step one you show what talents
you can teach step two you show it
talents you want to learn you get
matched to someone with all your
payments and scheduling streamlined on
one platform this is one to four
whatever you want to do all right last
but certainly not least so I when I
thought your idea was really exciting
what inspired you from watching
Wolverine okay guys
I do love Hugh Jackman okay sir guys for
the last fast idea please crushed we
live in an age of metal we’re about 1 in
20 people with broken bones have a
metallic implant which holds the
fracture in place this implant is
permanent which means as we age our
bones grow weaker and the implant begins
to start damaging our aging tissue my
research aims at modifying the metallic
implant by coating it with stem cells
readily found inside our body
transforming them from what was
previously metal into bone therefore we
can end the age of metal ok guys
these were all amazing ideas I think we
can all agree but we’re going to do
something a little bit scientific to
decide which was the rooms favorite idea
I’m sure the scientists in the lineup
will appreciate this we’re gonna do an
opposer Mita sir making such noise for
that idea that you like best
okay was it Dina and retirement dogs
was it India and hydrogen fuel was it
Kirti and his LGBTQIA app okay was it
Samira and an pesticide
all right was it Nikita
and one two
and lastly was it Krishna and Wolverine
stem cells it’s really hard to decide
but I think that Nikita for the glory of
the TEDx usage can you please give a
round of applause to Nikita and all a
beautiful participants amazing all right
so if you guys are interested in
becoming a becoming a fast ideas or if
you have an idea about sharing next year
we’ll also be running this or also on
TEDx Sydney thank you so much for being
a wonderful audience I’ll hand you guys
back to Jen
