never doubt that a group a small group
of thoughtful committed leaders can
change Africa you guys make a difference
in every society but I believe that in
Africa more than anywhere else in the
world leaders just one press one good
leader can have much more in fact
laughter than anywhere else in the world
there is no prosperity for our content
out there vibrant diverse and truly
competitive politics are we doomed to
always have to choose between mediocrity
and ego and mediocrity and ego is that
it is that all our government will ever
be there is need to invest in education
there is Niki invest in girls education
there is need to fight practice like
child marriage which are encouraging
girls to stay out of school there is no
sense of emergency there is no sense of
urgency about those education and that
bothers me how much longer will you and
I be happy with the status quo that
existed the status quo that over the
past 100 years continues to put you and
I as African people at the recipients of
all forces shaping the global world
we’ve had a conversation that makes it
okay for Africans to just be okay well
I’m here to tell you something new and
that is it’s not okay why do we need to
pay attention to what happens in our
media the media is powerful because
they’re unavoidable they shape the
perceptions of what we see and our
reality so while this is all very
worrying I think this represents a real
opportunity I’m very excited about what
we can do with media and harnessing this
kind of power in shaping our mindsets
doing good do we just sit back and hope
that one day we get good news or can we
create a system a machine
I can actually find young people and
develop why is a woman like me I’m in
Malawi and I was born in this country
you know but the bottom ìwhy anti faced
with those challenges is because I went
to school for them educated there is
need to invest in girl education so that
they can become someone like me we must
run for office we must work in the civil
service
we must disrupt the political status quo
yours and my task is the next generation
of this continent is to have a bit of
faith let’s redefine what it is to be
black African and reaffirm ourselves and
our identity
[Applause]
