turn to the side so we can see your

profiles now smile more vacantly

completely tastefully no more gracefully

thanks we’ll be in touch with your

agency sorry there wasn’t more for you

to read in fact his steve he’ll be the

lead in this could you give him a quick

kiss no longer linger come on he’s not

that much of a minger let’s see love in

your eyes but you didn’t think you’d be

snogging a handsome guy when you arrived

okay thanks for coming by and I wonder

whether to simply deny the whole things

happening so baffling are these fleeting

meetings in casting rooms passing

through to audition for the parts of

blond number two then paired off with a

guy who says hi like he’s met them all

before as he walks through the door I am

so bored of auditioning for girl at

Party and sexy and arty I am sick of

them asking me to wear an outfit that

sultry but dignified that shows the

outline of my size I know that everybody

lies on their spotlight and I need to

look right for the part but can we call

it art when the part has become

formulaic its archaic life is a mosaic

and acting a way of refracting and

reflecting its shapes so how come the

men always get the higher stakes

the longer takes driving plots in car

chases winning races taking on the

bigger issues while we’re left with the

ones requiring tissues our minds needing

something lighter us always the victim

and never the fighter turning to the

fella in a moment of Terror and asking

what do we do that just isn’t true to

life I do not just see a wife I did not

just see a sister I do not just see a

woman who is accessory to a mr. I see

women centrally

they have been for centuries Shakespeare

knew the tales of Cleopatra and the

shrew are not much ado about nothing

when humanity comprises the coupling of

many genders I am done with endless

chats about whether I’m too quirky

looking for that about whether I can be

seductive with a chest

this flat surely the very matter of

being an actor the art of performing

meaning transforming into something new

something that isn’t completely you and

making it look true I don’t know about

you but I’d like to see something new

lit up in lights and Technicolor telling

the tale of something other something

more something that doesn’t limit me to

being a whore or a prude or something to

be viewed in the nude but only on

occasions when it wouldn’t be considered

rude or prove too tempting for a dude I

don’t want to get to another casting

place and talk about my face when there

won’t actually be a trace of myself if

they’d only let me show them how I play

someone else thank you [Applause]
