Perfect Imperfection | 昌憲 沈 | TEDxWegoHighSchool

perfect imperfection now for you to get
ready it’s going to be a six minute
speech in which I’m going to explain
this cliche with stories of my life and
three clothes from different movies now
first you might be thinking why am i
speaking English there’s this Wharton
guy there’s this Harvard guy over why am
i speaking English let me tell you why I
am showing off but for particular reason
but before I tell you what reason is
that
congenital anitanja for those of you who
didn’t know what congenital and it don’t
show is it basically it’s a genetic
defect which I was born with less teeth
8 in my case and so that makes me the
target of bully ìmake now some of the
nicknames are actually quite creative
it’s like there’s this one time when I
was with a girl and they all called her
Snow White
why because I was like one of the Seven
Dwarves or there’s another time like
when the movie came out How to Train
Your Dragon
they call me toothless funny huh and
actually really creative after all these
years I take it as nothing there’s this
one time I stand in front of mirror and
I was like Mike I’m gonna give you a new
nickname and my head was planed so I’m
pretty sure they’re really good like
those nicknames but that’s not the point
the point is that I was being set apart
from to some people I hated talked to
people my peanut garden life and my
first three years of elementary school
was quite miserable and now back to
showing up yeah now the reason why I’m
speaking English is because the
motivation of imperfection
now the third school year of elementary
school our class voted for a
representative to go outside and for an
English each contest now our past voted
for me by not for honor but for mocking
then that battery
laughing stop well the worst part is the
teacher aggrieved and she came to me and
she said Michael why don’t just give it
a try and I was like really really
English contest and she she quoted
Forrest Gump
she said life is like a buggers chalica
you never know what’s gonna get and I’m
like fine fine I’ll do it I’ll do it and
here’s the part which is the turning
point of my life for the next three
months I keep watching movies I try to
mark the pronunciation of the movies
different accent like my American accent
it was one movie The Incredibles the
cartoon and my British accent is from
Harry Potter and anyway you see Here I
am my pronunciation is not perfect but
I’m pretty sure it’s above some level
you see have you ever seen a three year
old kid with no teeth and she and she or
she is talking like that that that’s how
I thought that’s how I thought when I
was little and so for the next three
months I was preparing to make sure my
speech is perfect so I actually learned
how to position my tongue in the right
place to avoid the wind from gusting up
from my mouth so that’s it but you need
time you need a lot of time to do that
so here comes the first quote of the day
you can’t get something on a bond where
you render me that you forgot how to
make the most of where you are it’s from
the movie passengers from 2016 so it’s a
cliche I have to think what you have
other than those things that you don’t
have devotion and destruction
now imagine on your on the roller
coaster you’re having fun in a theme
park would you really think about the
imperfections you have maybe you think
your favorite maybe you think you’re not
stored enough but you wouldn’t why
because you’re so distracted and you’re
so devoted in to tell me doing something
that you wouldn’t think about the
imperfection and after a long time of
period people will stop thinking about
the imperfection and so you know what go
out there hide have some sports listen
to some music and in my case I try to
focus more on public speaking I never
thought like in the stage here today
speaking here everyone not to mention
English and so I also found my hobby
which is movies and I love movies and I
wanted to go to the
in the future to the second code of the
day some may say that I couldn’t but no
one can say that I didn’t
it’s a also from movie Florence pasta
Jenkins in 2016 but she’s also a real
person she performed in the Carnegie
Hall but she can sing you understand
that critics destroyed her but this is
what she said before she died last thing
I think therefore I am now this is also
a cliche but before you say this I want
you guys to think about what it really
means about this one
this is human brain complicated but
powerful it’s so powerful that it can
actually change your route of life in
something though the only course of life
I know why listen to a 17 year old kid
your age a being about life but in this
long course of life sometimes it’s just
a spark of inspiration that can change
the whole ending of life so please think
think about what you have don’t think
about what the things you don’t have
that’s what I do
and that’s why I have some progress
which I think most of you guys can’t ten
I mean that’s quote of the day you only
get one life and it’s your duty to live
it as fully as possible it’s from the
movie me before you in 2016 you see like
I said I have encountered some Baggett’s
that stops some barriers and I’m pretty
sure you all do and you’ll find what
you’re gonna do in the future at some
point of your life
so yeah live out your perfect
imperfection and one last reminder you
only live once
thank you
