music has the power to make us cry to
make a smile and to make us feel for
most emotions that human beings are
capable of feeling and I first felt this
impact when I was just 14 years old when
one single piece of music changed my
life forever Beethoven’s Feldstein
sonata I knew it was going to be a
struggle for me in my quest to become a
concert pianist being born with only one
hand and let me take you back over a
hundred years ago to 1913 when gifted
concert pianist Paul Vic and Stein gave
his concert debut here in Vienna his
home city now most musicians debuts are
nerve-racking slightly traumatic and you
only get one shot at it but not Paul Vic
and Stein less than a year later he lost
his right arm during battle in the first
world war
now this alone would be enough for any
musician to completely give up on their
dreams of being a concert performer but
in the middle of a Siberian prisoner of
war camp with just a wooden crate a
piece of chalk and his imagination he
worked tirelessly to see how he could
reimagine his favorite two-handed piano
pieces but for left hand alone when he
was sent back to Vienna luckily for him
he used his position in society and his
wealth to Commission the leading
composers of the day so Ravel Berkoff EF
and Richard Strauss each composed works
for left hand alone this enables Vic and
dying to
we launched his career to read a beYOU
but this time as a left hand alone
pianist now I’m going to perform one of
his arrangements for left hand alone
it’s the beautiful
Ave Maria by bark guna

so what thank you so much for that
lovely applause thank you what I’d like
to do now and I may take this
opportunity is to perform one of my own
arrangements for left hand alone the
Rachmaninoff Prelude in G minor opus 23
number five in a tribute to my piano
hero Paul Vic and Stein because without
him his steely determination and his
tenacity I wouldn’t have access to 3,000
works for left hand alone
therefore I wouldn’t have the career
that I have today
please enjoy back manonoff Prelude may
be 23 number 5
