Gender Equality | Aspen Aldama Noah Callaway | TEDxKids@ElCajon

girls rule boys drool girls a week in
out tiny brains we would like to take
just a moment of your time to talk about
a very serious issue the issue of gender
equality has been ballers Falls for some
time now and really needs to be
addressed the dictionary defines
generate quality as state in which
access to rights and opportunities are
unaffected by gender and simpler terms
it means that boys and girls are equal
there are many aspects of gender
equality for employment to age equality
what we would like to talk about is
something a little closer to the home
something we can actually impact to
begin with I don’t know about you Noah
but I am sick of being told that blue is
a boy color and pink is our girl color
yeah I have to think I look pretty sharp
in this pink shirt you really do thanks
Aspen and you were rocking that blue
shirt oh thanks Noah but you know there
is so much more to the colors that we
are suppose to wear that we can impact
right now me like two languages exactly
have you noticed how people constantly
say act like a man or man uh
well if a boy gets hurt and they cry
their just stop acting like a girl why
is that any show strength is concerned
manly but the word girls so synonymous
to weak then there are the things are
somewhat taboo depending on your gender
example sure how about despite the fact
that men had been wearing nail polish
since 3200 BCE is now considered a girl
thing to do if men use paint the nails
then that why is it wrong to do now and
is this exactly girly see I get it it’s
this it’s the same way for girls I
happen to play football I really like
football but never I tell people that
people told me this is a guy sport and
it’s not very ladylike
yeah that’s pretty unfair it is did you
know that in the United
States there is about 1,500 girls that
play football this seems like a big
number but there’s about 1.5 million
boys that play football this number
doesn’t seem so big anymore does it no
it doesn’t but I think it’s important to
recognize and acknowledge that we’re all
unique in our own rights this allows us
many people know what this means but if
you don’t it means you should never
judge something without giving it a
chance in this case it means you should
never judge a boy or a girl by one
interaction you might not want to be
friends with somebody just because of
the opposite gender is you a man named
Matt lakorn actor and actress stated we
need a creative side you wear girls and
women are getting the same current and
support to build their careers as boys
and men are this music for a girl or a
boy a man or a woman we can all
accomplish many things the same things
it is a fact that men and women said
bout accomplishing the same task in
different ways but they should imply
that a man’s way of doing something is
better or that a woman’s way is better
it’s all a matter of perspective
it’s picture behind me just two people
looking down at a number of paint on the
sidewalk one person that’s a six and the
other says is a nine
although both people have different
answers neither are truly wrong this
ties in with gender equality because
even though men and women do things
differently this mean either of you are
wrong we need to encourage people show
them we are equal show them do you don’t
have to be a girl to paint your nails or
a guy to play a sport Aspen do you think
things will ever really change of course
they will he’s already been changing did
you know that 40 years ago there were no
girls scholarships for sports today
there’s about 900 million dollars with
athletic scholarships reward to females
each year and about a hundred years ago
women weren’t able to vote this past
election we actually had a female run
for president Wow
so yes change is
happening but it’s happening very slow
how can we make an impact what could in
make a difference
well for starters let’s not be the
problem let’s be the solution we need to
ignore people’s strengths and
contributions and we could avoid using
gender as derogatory statements let’s
see the new generation the woman does it
tear each other down but rather raise
each other up
it’ll take many people to get this goal
so let’s be the start of something good
not something want to take back a
feature we all have the power to make
this world a more gender equal place [Applause]
