when I was in school and I was learning
about the solar system one of the
planets that fascinated me was the
Jupiter apart from the wonderful
appearance Jupiter had nine moons for
all those who have children in their
school studying the solar system please
do not share this information with them
because in their books the figure is 69
where did those 60 moons come from in
1992 there were nine moles in 2018 there
are 69 moons these moons were existing
we were technologically incapable of
identifying those moons it is possible
that there are many more moons that we
are yet to discover and as the
technology progresses it is possible
that we the figure increases this
concept is not just for the Jupiter but
it is in all spheres of our life about
200,000 years ago from primates to Homo
sapiens to Sophia a robot which was
granted a citizenship in October 2017
human evolution has significantly
progressed I would say it has been a
rapid progression and training and
development or learning and development
has been very instrumental in the
evolution of humans now
primates realized much earlier on that
all the information that they have
gained cannot be contained in the human
memory which is perishable by death and
hence they had to find ways in which the
information can be cascaded to the
younger generations and that’s how they
started they could
the cave walls with symbols with
pictures
they also used engraved stone tablets
which could be carried and then they
also used to share stories of whatever
their daily happenings were there to the
younger generation sitting around a
bonfire now in the last two decades that
I have been in this training and
development domain I have seen a lot of
technological advances there have been
lots of hits
lots of misses but then this experience
has shaped the corporate learning
environment what I have seen is that the
cave vaults have now been replaced by
computer vaults the stone tablets
they have now been replaced by digital
tablets and mobile phones and the
bonfire stories now they have been
replaced by interactive videos if you
see the pattern continues but are we
supposed to go ahead and follow the same
pattern of the past and just find
shinier versions of the technologies
which can propel our future or should we
just find out some disruptive ideas
which can just light up the crystal ball
and take us to a future which is full of
possibilities a future which is
unfathomable a word of caution to you
right now what I am going to share may
sound absurd may sound absolutely
unbelievable but that’s how innovations
have been a couple of hundred years ago
who would have even thought that man
could go ahead and they put a step on
moon or else that we could reach
different planets or else we could even
go ahead and search for a place where
humans can stay in a different planet
altogether at that point of time all
these thought processes were absurd and
so it is also possible that what I am
going to share would sound absurd but I
am going to share four possibilities
with you today
on what the learning could be and what
the era of corporate training and
learning could be so the first
possibility in 1993 the advances Journal
reported that an experiment which was
conducted by the Armed Forces this
experiment involved checking the
connection of emotions and DNA after
being separated from the human body so
what was this experiment all about in
this particular experiment a volunteer
was placed in a room through a swab of
saliva the DNA of that volunteer was
placed in a separate room which was
about 100 feet away this volunteer was
then subjected he was shown some images
and videos which could elicit emotional
states and the DNA which was there was
checked electrically on the response
very surprisingly the DNA behaved as if
it was a part of the human body not just
that they decided to test limits so
scientists are crazy so what they did is
they separated the DNA by 50 miles and
guess what happened the DNA still
behaved as if it was connected to the
human body and there was no time lag
which means we are connected to our DNA
outside our body on a separate element
you have seen babies and babies smile
babies cry right from the time the baby
is born and taken from the mother’s womb
and just with a pat on its back the baby
starts crying but who has thought babies
to cry who has taught babies to smile
without the worldly knowledge they still
do that how does that happen this is a
learning which has been passed from
generations this is the learning by
evolution this is the learning which has
been transmitted by DNA so on one one
part you have your DNA with
can react and respond outside your body
and the same DNA is capable of
transmitting knowledge now what if these
two things are put together what if the
DNA’s are outside the body and they can
still transmit knowledge a future would
be probably the DNA of knowledge giver
and a DNA of learner put in one room
some emotional stimuli and the learning
transfer happens which means you don’t
need to go to colleges you don’t need to
go to schools parents you can save
college money and school money but this
is definitely a possibility what we call
it as a DNA based learning let us look
at a second possibility today we are
living in a world where the created is
teaching the created yes robots are
teaching robots artificial intelligence
is teaching itself recently Google
announced a software program called
alphago which mastered the ancient
Chinese game of go in three days without
any human support to take this further
another software program called alpha
zero managed to master the complex game
of chess in only four hours and there
were only basic rules of chess which
were inputted so you have an artificial
intelligence which learns all by itself
on a separate aspect you had a professor
of USC his name is dongseong he has
recently created brain implants which
are capable of improving your short-term
memory by 15% and your long-term memory
by 25% I’m sure most of you would start
thinking where can I get this Blair in
brain implants because I would not
forget birthdays of my loved ones but I
want you to just think about it that if
these two technologies can be put
what could happen so if our diffusion
intelligence like alpha zero and you
have the brain implant put together so
you will have a chip which is fitted in
your brain which can extract all the
information from your brain and
constantly learn and adapt so in a world
of probably 4g mobile your brain will be
like a 10 g mobile capable of a
processing speed of maybe 100 gb and and
in finite storage capacity through cloud
computing this is the advanced
artificial intelligence brain implant
learning let’s look at the possibility
number 3 so so far we have been
discussing about transferring knowledge
transferring information but we learn by
experiences to for getting experiences
we require a human body we require a
context we require thrill we require
mystery we require accidents we require
time we require some kind of realism
so apart from gaining these kind of
experiences in your conscious world
there is still one more place that you
visit every single night and where you
could actually experience things
realistically and those are dreams
dreams are capable of eliciting response
of eliciting reactions of eliciting
emotions you have seen people sleeping
and crying or crying in sleep you have
seen people who get frightened in their
dreams because they experienced a dream
which was very powerful and those
because of those emotions they wake up
you have seen people sleepwalking so
these dreams they are as close to real
life experiences in a separate aspect to
this so scientists they started a
research on this as well and they said
that what if we could capture dreams
what if we could see what a person is
dreaming and that’s how the subject of
scientists started looking at how can
electrical impulses of the brain be
mapped and what you are seeing in dreams
can be captured in a digital format and
yes it is happening currently and that’s
not all science has progressed now even
if you are watching something
consciously that same information
through your brain impulses can be
transmitted digitally and people can
watch what you are watching which means
this is more or less very similar to the
telepathic connection that can exist I
want you to imagine that if you’re
watching me right now in a conscious
state that information can be captured
by an artificial intelligence on the
digital front and then what if it is
transferred to another person who’s
sleeping wow this person is going to go
and gain that experience without
actually going through it which means
you can learn in dreams so if you want
to learn about leadership maybe sleep
for two days if you want to learn about
sales maybe sleep for three days and if
you want to learn about how to be a
fantastic TEDx speaker maybe sleep for
five days and you would learn and this
is dream based learning that is a
another possibility a possibility number
four and this possibility started in the
year 2000 there is a bio artist who
decided to create a work of art and he
said I want to have a fluorescent green
rabbit so he shared that particular task
with a French laboratory the scientists
they took the embryo of a white rabbit
they took the genes of a green
fluorescent jellyfish and implanted in
the white rabbits embryos DNA this
particular genes and wha-la Alba was
born
and that’s the name of that rabbit and
this happened in the year 2000 in a
similar experiment it involved voles or
small rodents the species is known to be
very promise cursed in nature however
there is one particular species wherein
the boy and the girl they form long
lasting monogamous relationships
genetics claim to have identified that
gene which is responsible for creating
that long-lasting monogamous
relationship now if this is possible can
you think that the human attributes
which are required in our learning and
development even in the corporate life
can these attributes be singled out and
if these attributes can be singled out
they can be implanted into humans and
viola you might have a human album aid
so which means that you might see in
future that careers are injections you
want to be a successful leader inject
implant and done you want to be a
successful business owner here is
another injection implant done and that
is the genetic code based learning which
we are living in a future where there is
lot of advancement made in artificial
intelligence as well as the scientific
unknown if you look at the pattern
primates they manage to make fire and
then primates manage to control fire it
is the domestication of that fire which
placed us on the top of the food chain
today in this particular world if we
have a controlled use of the artificial
intelligence as well as the controlled
use of scientific unknown it is possible
that we would get into a future which is
unknown a future which is full of
possibilities
one thing is for sure our future is
definitely not going to represent our
past in any ways
