Traditionally, success is associated with
a staircase an endless staircase
that never ends
and if we see the success of that
way it would seem that success is something
that is always in the future and
never in the present
and today seeing my life in hindsight
having worked 25 years in the world
corporate I can tell you that success
it’s something else
success is an attitude towards life
that’s a way of thinking is a way of
live
and that has much more elements of
present that of the future
I did not understand my success from the
important exhibitions that I had in
the different stages of my life
but from that feeling of
fullness and happiness that I felt in
each one of those stages
success is something alive not something to do
living success is not something that we have
to reach but something that we are going
building day by day
Success is not something that will happen but
something that is happening
and it’s definitely not something that is in
the future but something that is in our

I am a native of San Jose de Ocoa one
village between mountains here in the south of
the Dominican Republic
I come from an extremely humble family
in other words poor
my parents did not have an education
formal my mom barely got to second
grade and my dad did not finish
the baccalaureate but they always told us
that the only inheritance that we were going to
to leave was an education and that was the
only tool that we were going to
used to get out of poverty
I always took that very seriously
when I graduated from high school being the
best student in my class with the
highest index we did not have
money so that I would go to study at
college
my father had emigrated three years before
to the us because I did not have work and
somehow you had to keep the
family
I decided then that I also
USA
I was 17 years old there was only one
little problem or several problems
we had money I did not speak English and
I had no place to stay because my
Dad rented a room in a
apartment in upper manhattan and not what
they left they did not allow him to have another
person with him
but I said I’m going to go and reach
the American dream and I ‘m going to have
success
against the whole world
I go to the US because I could convince
an aunt who let me stay in the room
from your house on a sofa
I’m going to the USA
and days later be there
I’m sleeping on the sofa in the house
my aunt
and I feel a heavy body on top of
my
breathing me here in the ear
He was my aunt’s husband who is no longer his
husband who was trying to rape me
that was my welcome to the usa
you can imagine the trauma that
I had for a long time thank God
I do not achieve it because I could
escape
When I woke up I walked several blocks
looking for a public telephone in that
then there were no cell phones or
internet neither had whatsapp called a
friend tell him what happened to me and tell me
collect your things and come here
that I did I could not say just my
dad because I said my dad is going to kill

jail and that’s not what I want

be at my friend’s house
my dad gets a job like super

We both lived because my mom and my
brothers had stayed here in the
Dominican Republic
I did not have money for
take English classes and my dad
I buy cassettes that I use today and
night day and night for months by months
until I decided to take the sofa that is

it’s only fair for me to be able to enter
a two – year college I went to
a two year community college a
teacher I identified myself tell me you are

the only woman in the room and it was the

when I was about 8 years old
working I decided that I wanted to make a

maybe I wanted to change career and
one I sent and I was not going to allow that
transition from one thing to another
I was married and had a child
three to three years and a young girl
born we sold our house in new
york and we moved to a Michigan tree
where I went to do send me
and the one who was my husband then I
I remember taking my baby to the girl
between one class and another I regretted that
it was two years of much sacrifice
I think I never sleep out
I really never slept
and between one year and another one has
to do an internship when nation
I sent and I got them to give me a
internship at goldman sachs a bank of
investment in new york I left the
michigan family and I all
Sundays at night I traveled to the city
from new york and fridays at night
I was going to michigan I remember being told

smart because they can think that you
you are not committed to the program or

Goldman Sachs is not interested in the package
complete that I like mom to me either

It turns out I was one of the few

after then I took my degree from

that you are not working

you must forget what it really is
important to your family of people who
