Dream & Goal | Nasir Morni | TEDxKenyalang

okay how are you guys doing good
I’m feeling good ticket on it all okay
all right thank you okay
I bet everyone did me in this hall at
first glance know who these guys are
right do you guys know
Keanu Reeves who played John wick Ryan
Reynolds who acted as Deadpool and Brad
Pitt who was in police Evo – sorry red
with who as in who as rusty in oceans
trilogy the two guys know what are the
real passion in the real life they build
custom bikes like I do which I really
love and enjoy okay this is me so cute
you know I can see the future you know
this is me right now from that time I
can see my future I’m standing right
here okay back in 1994 so every day my
dad will send me to school with his bike
so that’s where my passion for
motorcycle starts so every day I woke up
every morning I was super excited I was
I was excited for the journey to school
and then as you can see my face it
really shows that I don’t want to go to
school at all all I wanted was to be on
the motorcycles yeah the wind in my face
the bumps on the roads the morning
rush-hour literally living life on the
edge
pure excitement which you can only get
by being on a motorcycle
did you guys feel the wind in your face
if not I will bring my motorcycle and we
can cruise around do nama okay and then
my high school results were not that
great but I was really good at tinkering
with bikes so I at my high school year I
would spend a lot of time helping my
helping my friends to improve the
aesthetic of their bikes which in turn
greatly affected my studies so I was
more focused on bikes
then study in school so that’s what you
don’t have to follow we have to study
hard study smart and then the SPM
results came out and I could still
remember the disappointed look on my
parents face at that time it hit me
really hard and that’s why I talked to
myself and that’s it this is where I
supposed to change to be the better me
everyone deserves a second chance to
rebuild themselves right we always have
an option I know you maybe some of you
guys might fail at the thing before you
do right now but there’s always an
option if you’re not good economically
then you can do something else it’s much
more option so I joined for vocational
training cause I was majoring in
automotive body repair in Institute
Kamehameha coaching so any I came
students here oh my god there was not a
popular school there I mean that’s cool
teach me a lot and that school makes Who
I am today shapes Who I am today
so thank you so much Institute
Kamehameha and of course I graduated on
2010 I graduated okay okay I want to
explore more of my abilities after one
year of graduation so I joined Limca
wing Borneo any Limca wing students here
few people okay so I joined Limca wing
and I graduated in diploma
animation and multimedia design so
that’s why I discovered my patient in
photography and videography so I work
with a friend of mine now so five years
and still on we’re still doing it we do
photography and videos for weddings
events and advertising so that’s what I
do for living today behind this photo so
this story behind this photo have you
guys seen The Secret Life of Walter
Mitty that’s a wonderful movie so I was
moved I was inspired by that movie you
know you seen him go to volcano Mountain
skating and then after I saw that movie
I talked to my friend you know let’s do
let’s do let’s let us take a travel
let’s travel we do like Walter Mitty
stuff
so we go to mount bromo Indonesia and
everything from that movie it’s not the
same as I go to Monroe more Mindy the
adventure to go there like ultimately
Ben Stiller from from his office to the
AFL I could just take five seconds and
me to mondawmin run eight hours trip I
was sick in the car
so it is not that easy so we managed to
know we go to bromo so this photo was
captured by myself at the on top of
mount bromo active volcano so that’s the
local kids playing like there’s nothing
up there but when you are up there it’s
like the sounds like a boiling water but
in a higher level so it’s quite
terrifying experience for me okay
today my parents wanted me to be an
engineer instead I became ingenuine
engineer so instead I became a
photographer and a bike builder but my
dad you know Howard that he’s quite cool
he supports me but my mom it’s quite she
is quite worried about me you know long
hair I woke up every morning
no not morning I welcome it I woke up at
10:00 sometimes I woke up at 1:00
because I work I work for myself I have
an office so I’m the boss so I can so I
can walk up 1 2 3 so it is not an a good
example but but we work ourselves
sometimes we work hard so it’s quite
la so of course they won but they wanted
me to be an engineer
so instead I became a photographer
videographer and the best thing is we
get to choose what we want to be some I
mean some people back before all their
thinking is about stability right then
they work from F from 8 to 5 job and you
have your monthly salary so in my mind I
said why not
this is 2018 so this is 2018 everything
can be work everything can be your world
right now with your smartphone you can
there’s always an option if you are not
good if you’re not good and academically
then you have to try to find something
else that you really love it what you
really like money comes later if you
love what you are doing then money will
come okay so back in 2015 so I built a
bike so this is the first time that
there was a serious bike that I built so
her name is Cal so I call a castle so
it’s a classic traditional Malay name so
every bill have their own names so I
have Lila have castle
I have buspar ye-yeah and the last one
that I built is Malati okay so let’s
talk about castle so consumed is my
first serious built bike
and then that first bike on 2015 so I
decided to join the Kuching
International Bike Week and that’s the
first time I joined a big event like
this at the event so she pulled a lot of
attention than me okay she put a lot of
attention and I see lots of people love
seeing all bikes being rebuilt and
redesigned so some guys come to me
what year is this bike so I said it is
from 1981
so it’s time wow that guy yeah he said
he said to me like I can’t believe I
just saw an old bike running again so I
said yeah we have to do something right
to all people we rebuilt them okay so
that’s kind let’s dance the idea that
came from so I think I should be I
create another business so that’s where
I got my second business so I built and
restored all rights for my part-time job
so I love I love doing bites and I kept
the bike for you and the best thing is I
want that custom bike built competition
on that pushing by week so the first
time I joined and then it’s quite likely
that I win I kept a bike for a year and
then the bike was featured on online
magazines you can visit return of the
cafe cafe racers calm
it is Australian online magazine you can
check it
and a few months after that I sold the
bike so I was in love with a bike I mean
not relationship love but I live I say
on the bike you know it’s my first pride
first winning but I have to solve it
because the offer is too high and I
cannot it’s a good money right okay so I
sold that buy and then my parent starts
to see me with a new perspective you
know I could make some money with my
hobbies
okay last July was a life-changing
experience for me so this is Malati this
thank you Malati is super old so she’s
she was manufactured in 1977 okay so I
was a got a phone call from a semi-matte
so I say Mohammed is the founder and
creator of a top speed Malaysia did you
okay Adam speed midsize big events
annually so they got judges from all
over the world from Japan United States
Indonesia
so most of famous builder will come to
this event it helps annually on July so
I got a phone call from I said he called
me and I said I see do you want to be
one of the invited builder for the bike
build-off in other speed and our shop
cost of course I was shocked and I was
afraid at that time you know deep down
in me there’s a small voice
telling me that I cannot do this
the art of speed is way beyond my league
I was a boy who just live in Tamil
slowly and I don’t have enough proper
tools to beat bikes but I talked to my
team I talked to my partner who beat the
bikes let’s do this it’s
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so we
accept the challenge but we have to
build a bike from scratch in four months
and ship it to KL that’s the hardest
part what you see on the picture the
only thing that I buy is the engines and
the wheels 80% on that bike is handmade
so we managed to finish the bank in four
months and then we ship it to hell
everything went smoothly and the event I
was super excited to meet one of my idol
Dean so Dean is the founder and creator
of the art of Speed Malaysia I’m sorry
the dice magazine business idea okay so
Dean is the founder of dice magazine the
number one chopper magazine in the
United States so I met him we take a
couple of photos you can see how I smile
white smile after I seen him at the end
of the day the results was a nun we
didn’t expect nothing you know when I
look most of the back in that
competition that was on another big leak
bigger engines because you see mine was
only 110 CC
the smallest one the smallest one that
they got in there is like 750 CC you see
when the results was announced I was
shocked the bike was picked by Dean
himself to be his favorite bike for the
entire event I saw like a boy from
coaching picked by the the best magazine
in the world if I had declined the
accept invitation if I had given up at
the first place none any of this would
be happen so sometimes we have to
believe in ourself go out on our comfort
zone honest I know it might be stressful
but there’s always a way this is saying
and that’s my saying okay I rather fail
at something that I love then to be
everyone have our own dreams our patient
right with you guys chase it the
question is will you chase it I’m gonna
say I’m a proud Sorokin I love you guys
thank you that X thank you so much thank
you [Music]
