[Music]
when I think about my musical journey I
picture a baby learning how to walk and
I make that comparison because from the
first attempted steps to walking babies
fall down a lot and from the first time
I ever picked up a guitar and tried to
sing at the same time to now being on
this stage I’ve also fallen down a lot
but I’m very stubborn and I’ve always
gotten back up even if I had to stay
down for a minute
throw a temper tantrum I never gave up
music has always been a form of therapy
for me and as I got better at singing
and playing I really realized that it is
a release it’s an escape and music
reminds me that I’m not alone so I share
my music and hope that even if I just
reach one person it’s worth it and
that’s why I do it I’m gonna sing two
songs for you all today they’re both
from my newest album that I released two
weeks ago and thank you
the first one is called my momma says
and I wrote this at the end of last year
when I was down I was in a funk and I
was having a really difficult time
pulling myself out of this mindset so I
thought about things my mom told me
growing up and my family and some other
life tidbits I picked up along the way
[Music]
sometimes I wake up and ask myself
sometimes I wonder if I am gonna be
alright it’s real easy to get down and
those mean red some days yes it’s easier
to just not get out babe but my momma
says there’s a reason and a season for
all of these things in life you just
gotta believe everything’s happening for
you at the right place that time and my
you got brains in your head
shoes on your feet you just gotta get
so many things going wrong with a world
they stay when things go wrong don’t go
with them
[Music]
feels like it’s the end just maybe start
up a new beginning find myself lost in
the darkness constantly searching for
light it’s real easy don’t wanna give up
falling down
something’s I but you got to stand and
brush yourself off to get up
and you’ll find in moments like these
you are stronger
and my brother tells me I got your back
girl cause you’re my little sister and
I’ll be
every single day for as long as we exist
here and my family’s always said I love
you and shown it so much more
actions speak louder than words and
that’s something I forever think I’m
and my momma says there’s a reason a
season for all of these things in life
you just got a bit
everything’s happening for you at the
right place and time my mama says
there’s a reason and a season for all of
these things in life you just got a
belief everything’s happening for you
[Applause]
so the next song I’m going to sing for
you is the most recent song that I’ve
written
I finished it at the beginning of this
month actually and a handful of people
know what this song is about in my life
and I have decided that today is the
opportunity for me to share it with all
of you in the world at the beginning of
this year I checked myself into an
eating disorder facility after 15 years
of struggling with body image issues and
dysmorphia I hid a dangerously low point
all around it was impacting
relationships with people I loved and
affecting my day-to-day a lot more in
hindsight than I realized so after 10
months of seeing two therapists and a
dietitian twice a week I was released in
September while I was undergoing this
therapy I
for obvious reasons wasn’t able to do
physical activity or do yoga which are
things that I love so again I turned to
music as a form of therapy and wrote a
ton in this last year and this song is
the first song I’ve written to myself a
lot of my songs are about experiences or
relationships I’ve been in but this one
was for me so before I bring my amazing
guitar player out who has brought this
song to life for me in so many ways I
want to leave you all with a gentle
reminder to never give up no amount of
comparison to other people or judgment
or self-doubt is going to change what
you are meant to experience in this life
your path is your path so it’s perfect
and you are exactly where you’re
supposed to be so don’t give up please
this song is called time a little time
before my eyes
could read between the lines took a
little time before my mind could
understand the lies one day in November
I saw myself so clear you staring at me
and I stared
for me
in that moment I knew something had to
change
[Applause]
put me back right I’m trying to put
these thoughts to rest I’m trying to
clear my mind I am trying
[Music]
move on step into a better life so what
[Music]
what not in December it all became too
real you called me as I said Harden to
my field in that moment I knew something
[Applause]
[Music]
took a little time
sweet [Music]
