What are Universities for?

What is the function of universities?
Well, the main reason is to teach people how to earn a living
Educate young people to become biochemists or biochemists
But there is another, more surprising and larger ambition lurking in the background
But sometimes appears in graduation letters or
In the singing moments at the graduation ceremonies.
This is intended
Universities should work how we live.
They are places we go to study and find out what interests us
Such as who we are, where our societies should be headed, and how we become happier and more accommodating.
It is no accident that many prestigious universities were founded in the mid-19th century
At exactly the same time
When faith in religion was in crisis and intense tension in the eyes of many.
Many questions emerged at the time:
Where people go to find interpretation, compassion, wisdom and a sense of belonging to society
And all they found one day in the church?
A group of educational scientists found that there is one answer to all these questions
That what people once found in churches can now find in things like
Plato’s discussions, Shakespeare’s plays, Jane Austen’s novels
Botticelli or Tetsian paintings.
In other words, the age of secularism will replace the Bible with culture.
This is a wonderful moving idea.
And became responsible for the establishment of many universities
As well as museums, concert halls and libraries.
But there is a problem.
Imagine virtually any virtual university anywhere in the world
Start by asking important questions like
Where should I go in my life? What is my reason?
How can I change things around me in this troubled world?
All that the wonderful team of teachers will do is to inform the police or mental hospital.
It’s not just what you’re allowed to ask about.
The important questions and internal tragedies that people turn to are the church
As if they were coming from within the university.
Where the mood is more refreshed, ideal and far stranger than anything practical or important.
Important questions may be asked by many students such as
How can I learn about relationships? And what should I do in life?
How do I spend my money and my need for an explanation?
How do you clean the energy in this world?
It is not necessarily necessary to answer or pay attention to such questions
Universities currently have sections in important academic areas such as
History, literature, or philosophy.
But such labels reflect only somewhat vague priorities
More than stand up to the issues that bother people in their lives.
In the ideal future university where the Bible is replaced by culture
You will consider reorganizing the sections
To reflect the actual priorities in our lives.
For example, we may have a relationship department and another for death studies
Center for Tension Disorder and Academy of Occupational Life Sciences.
You will not study the history of the 18th century or the stories of the homeless.
But will you consider how to be less anxious or more sensitive?
Compliment of the large number of universities today
It’s not a good way to get away from them, but to try to make them stick to their original promise
Is that in the middle of this busy world where most of us are wandering all the time trying to make a living,
We act as centers that can generate these ideas that will help us to live happily and comfortably.
