Thoreau and Civil Disobedience

In March 1845, the United States ushered in a new president, James Knox Polk.
A strong, militant political outsider, eager to make the motherland strong
And advocates walking in front of other big countries, especially Mexico and the United Kingdom.
In less than one year after taking office, he announced the full declaration of war to Mexico.
The fuse is the border dispute in Texas
Immediately after the sovereignty of Oregon, the momentum of the sword refers to the United Kingdom.
In addition, Polk is a staunch defender of black slavery.
Dismissive of the avant-garde and “sensible” views of abolitionists
Polk is a popular president, widely acclaimed for his fanatical political actions.
However, quite a few people hate his strength.
One of them is the writer of the state of Massachusetts – Henry David Thoreau
Thoreau is now regarded as a representative of American literature.
His prose work Walden appeared in every high school class.
But Thoreau has a more political side.
Now often forgotten
The second to none is the relationship with the president.
Thoreau quickly realized that he opposed everything that Polk agreed to.
He hates the American West War
Standing clearly on the side of Mexico that is about to fail
He is cautious about the dispute with the UK
Pursuing the blacks against the authorities
Surprised by the policy of returning them to the Southern Master
Thoreau’s anger at the president impolitely vented his article published in 1849.
In Civilization Disobedience
The main purpose of the article is to explore how an honest citizen should do it.
When he faced a president who opposed him completely
The widely accepted view is that since the president won most of the votes
Opponents should remain silent
Collapse your own opposition and respect the will of the president
Is an obligation of a qualified citizen
And this is exactly what Thoreau wants to analyze and completely overthrow.
He pointed out that the true patriot will not blindly follow the authorities.
But listen to your own will
Especially those rational principles
Thoreau wants to blindly follow less and think more independently.
In the eyes of Thoreau, a noble citizen of the United States of America
Should not be silent
Every time he lives a democratic life, he should think independently.
On this basis, Thoreau issued a fierce protest warning to the Polk government.
He condemned the US-Western War and the policy of repatriating slaves
And the attitude of the government
In order to express his resistance, Thoreau stopped paying taxes.
In July 1846, when he walked into Concord to repair shoes
He was arrested by the authorities and cast into the town prison.
Thoreau is not ashamed of the iron window, he wrote
When the government begins illegal detention, the prison is the home of an honest person.
All machines will have friction, Thoreau said
But when unfairness is everywhere, you should use your own life to stop the machine from running.
Thoreau did not swear that he did not pay taxes.
In fact, a kind aunt helped him pay the tax.
Not paying taxes is just a form of non-violence
The elected government can and should be opposed
If it is mistaken into radical and irrational astray
The election may decide the president’s candidate
But it can’t ensure that everything the president does is right.
Or can a citizen stand by and watch until the next election?
In summary, Thoreau hates political negativity
He sarcastically
Thousands of people against slavery and war
But no one stood up to stop them
They advertise themselves as descendants of Washington and Franklin.
But put your hands in your trouser pocket.
Say that I don’t know what to do, I don’t do anything.
This is not the work of Thoreau.
“What kind of attitude should we adopt like this US administration?”
My answer is that any contamination with him is shameful.
Thoreau screams that citizens can never easily dedicate their will to legislators.
And let yourself bow to the blasphemy
Thoreau ridiculed: Most legislators, politicians, lawyers, officials and civil servants
It is very likely that the devil is consciously or unconsciously
Thoreau will not be such a slave
Most American writers know exactly who they should be loyal:
That is his own thoughts and consciousness
