Eastern philosophy:
“Wu Wai”
“Woo wai” in Chinese means: work or nothing,
It may seem like a joyous invitation to relax; even worse, an invitation to fall into laziness or indifference.
However, this principle is the key to the noblest business according to Taoist philosophy,
This is what Dow means or “the road” means.
According to Da Tao’s main text, “The road is to do nothing, yet all work is done.”
And here lies the contradiction of “Woo Wai”.
It does not mean not to work, it means “work without stress” or “work without work”.
It means that you are in peace, while you are involved in performing the most troublesome tasks, so that one can accomplish these tasks with the utmost skill and efficiency.
The meaning of Wu Wai is understood to be immersed in what he does and to be in a state of deep concentration and flow,
“Wu Wai” closely linked to the Taoist reverence of nature,
Because it means striving for our actions to become spontaneous and inevitable as some natural processes,
And make sure we swim with the current and not reverse it.
We must be like bamboo; bend in the wind, or like a plant that adapts itself to the shape of the tree.
Wu Wai requires the abandonment of ideals that we can forcibly impose on things,
Rather, it invites us to respond to the urgent needs of the situations we observe only when we set our ego-driven goals.
What follows is a loss of self-awareness, creating a new union between the self and its surroundings.
But none of this means that we will not be able to change or influence things if we try to implement Woo Wai.
Dow Ding Jing points out that we must be like water: submissive and weak, but he can not be attacked in all his strength and strength.
Through soft perseverance and persistence on a certain problem, we can overcome the handicap; it gradually disappears.
The idea of achieving the greatest achievements by applying the strategy of wise surrender was the basis of Chinese theories of politics, diplomacy and business.
In the “Wisdom” brochures issued by the “Taoists”,
We are always asked not to impose a plan or template on a particular event,
We must let others act insanely, and then calmly adjust ourselves to the developments of the situation.
Tang’s Chinese poets likened Wu Wai to the best consequences of sugar.
This was not an invitation to eat wine,
But also because of the low level of intransigence and anxiety, which helps us to accomplish some of the tasks.
One of the poets compared a person who was influenced by Wu Wai’s thought of a drunken man who fell from a moving vehicle;
This spiritual momentum makes them unaffected by accidents and calamities that can destroy the most organized minds and control.
Drawing theories from the Tang era until now have made Wu Wai the basis for artistic practice.
Instead of trying to replicate nature in the form of identical copies,
Artists must feel the nature of their faces and give in to their appeals.
The task of the artist is not to imitate the external form of things, but to show the energy (qi) and the spirit of these things, such as mountains, trees, birds,
Sensing something of this spirit in their insides, and making it flow through the feather on silk or paper.
The Taoist thinkers appreciate not only the work done on its own,
But appreciate the act of painting itself, and consider the ceremony as headquarters of applied philosophy.
The poet Fu Zai, a descendant of the Tang Dynasty, described a concert to see the artist Zhang Zao:
He sat in the middle of the room, legs extended, took a deep breath, began to inspire him to appear.
The attendants were clumsy as though lightning were flying through the heavens or a storm sweeping through the sky,
The ink seemed to spit out of his flying feather.
He clapped his hand loudly. Suddenly, strange forms were born.
When it was over, there were pine trees standing, crumbling and cracked, sharp and sloping rocks, clear water and a storm.
Threw his feathers, stood up, then looked around him in every direction.
It looked as if the sky had been described after a storm, to reveal the true essence of tens of thousands of things.
“Zhang Zhao” (whose artwork has now been lost, unfortunately):
That he “left a pure skill behind him” and that his art “was not just a painting, but was the spirit of” Dow “himself.
You may not get a good life once you follow Wu Wai,
But this Taoist thought has exceptional wisdom, which we may need at times,
When we are at risk of hurting ourselves because of stubborn intransigence and firm adherence to some ideas that no longer meet the needs of the world, if they remain the same.
