Tagging Silky Sharks | Shark Men

you guys some of the shark men speed
ahead to start working you want to bread
for a half an hour or something we could
jump in here hopefully Todd will get
something going you control around us
and you can bring whiting in to change
our tags when we look like we’ve
deployed one until the mothership
catches up they’ll tag the old-fashioned
way set up tags here so we can get them
ready to get in there you have a few
we’re just gonna tag shocks that we see
cards these have a heads but at this
point we’ll just tie anything because
this isn’t a cork inside the chars we
all know we’re running out of time man
we’re out of time we got to get back we
got to get off the ship we’ve got to get
this chance
their hunch pays off as they drop in on
a large school of silky sharks crit
strikes first
then Alex
yt keeps fresh tags coming I have one
rigged up I can just hand to him chris
is gonna tell me species size sex
whatever out of those glasses I look
like a Brainiac now silky sharks are a
key species for their migration study
because I’m treating interns knows
anything about them except that they’re
fish throughout the regions okay needs a
tag now some people might ask well okay
so what sharks are overfished you no big
deal there are plenty of fishes are see
what actually there are there aren’t and
people estimate that maybe a hundred
million sharks or more efficient each
year and with a species or with a group
of species that has such a low capacity
of replenishing their numbers
that’s pretty drastic
it’s an amazing tally of 15 female
