Super Suction | National Geographic

I’m used to blowing things up in the
name of science but for once I want to
do the reverse so I’ve come to this
lumberyard to try and create super
suction in a gravity defying test of
strength and this crazy-looking rig is
exactly how I’m going to do it what
you’re looking at here is a huge
super-sized vacuum cleaner on the roof
of a station wagon it’s very simple by
vacuum cleaners five hoses all inserted
in the top suction in standard vacuum
cleaners works by reducing air pressure
of the hose entrance this causes the
surrounding air to push in attempting to
equalize the pressure the box I’ve
created will have the suction power of
my five vacuum hoses now for what I’ve
got in mind I’m gonna need a lift and a
huge one at that so I’ve asked a guy
called animal to bring his crane a lot
and I’ve got some guys from the yard to
help out
come on then get the crazy Brit thing
out of the way have a look at it see if
you can work out what it is I haven’t
the foggiest selling vacuums I think
this is a new way to sell em on the
street no I admit I have bought dave-o
out of vacuum cleaners but this is
something totally different I’ll give
you a clue all right are you trying to
fly it I I’m gonna lift this car into
the air using nothing but the power of
five vacuum cleaners most my vacuum
cleaners can’t even pick up like the
dust hair on my floor okay here’s what’s
gonna happen
five vacuum cleaners will lift this car
we’re gonna get it in the air and unplug
them one by one
what’s the least amount of vacuum
cleaners we can get to lift this bad boy

I’ve come all this way to not lift my
cars any one way to find out animal has
hooked up the crane but only to the box
which has absolutely nothing holding it
to the car except from puny household
duct tape if I’m right when I switch on
the vacuums they’re pulling power will
keep the Box stuck tight to the roof of
the car
even when the crane has raised the box
into the air so just how few vacuum
cleaners will I need to keep my car
airborne will it be three four five will
I fail completely or none of the above
