NHLPA | Beyond the Puck

skating when I was two still haven’t
perfected that yet playing off the twice
a week a bunch of our co-workers angel
key sponsors out here playing and the
great friday afternoon lunch break I’m
the ejector communication 58 so we deal
with all messaging to the players agents
fans I started playing hockey about his
four years old I’m 36 now special
assistant for the executive director 21
years in the NHL I pray for 10 different
teams I was a player up for probably 10
arrows years there’s so many rewarding
things that we get to be here
particularly in this area at the NHLPA
this is the climate leadership award
that I go to in 2008 from the suzuki
foundation for helping start the carbon
neutral challenge and that’s it’s it’s
pretty awesome mean growing up in Canada
and to meet him and it was amazing it
started with a phone call from Andrew
and you know I’ll have to be honest I
thought he was I thought it was a real
long shot I didn’t know much about
carbon neutral but as far as what he
wanted to do and accomplish I thought it
was great the environmental program it
certainly was launched in a big way and
carries on in a big way but it’s also a
small part of what we do the other part
of my job is running our foundation
called the goals and dreams fund which
we’re proud to say is the largest
grassroots hockey program in the world
it’s been around for 12 years well we
don’t need
more than 20 million dollars in more
than 25 countries and basically the goal
is to get kids to play the great sport
of hockey the players started this
program they fund the program they
basically want other kids to experience
the joy of skating it’s a Santa Claus
role basically and we get the
opportunity and the players are all
involved and they give recommendations
they often fund their own programs in
their home in their own countries so
60,000 kids have received equipment from
the players and you know it’s pretty
amazing everything of a football stadium
full and that’s how many kids have
smiles in the face is because of the
players so just help them deal how
people be able to make a difference we
like to believe that’s what sets us
apart for me you know other
organizations saying they’re they’re
fantastic people
