New York Culture | Sue in the City

the bear I know exactly what he wants
most of the time and you know it’s a
very honest relationship there’s no
hidden agendas you know I mean he wants
to either eat me or just walk through me
and it’s very obvious what he wants so I
respect it
I don’t necessarily fear it but here
you’ve got literally millions of other
people and I have no idea what their
agenda is
so yeah that’s frightening to me because
I can’t tell by looking at somebody if
they intend harm or good so people are a
predator that I do need to watch
crossing the street is challenging
because I’m being forced to put my faith
in people driving these cars and that’s
not standard oh there’s a lot of traffic
there’s be punk punk punk so the noise
level is just maintaining a modicum of
terror
you know controlled chaos
I don’t know that it’s the energy of the
city but the bombardment of activity is
exhausting it’s exhausting the year it’s
exhausting – everything’s going by and
I’m not used to that it’s the most
people I’ve ever seen yeah in one place
on purpose I don’t find the people are
unfriendly here at least I haven’t found
them yet everybody’s got a place to be
and they’re going there but you know
when I stop and I ask somebody
directions or something else and they’re
very nice and they share information
they’re just doing it while they’re
walking very rapidly to wherever they’re
going there are people that say New
Yorkers are gruff and they’re they’re
not nice and but you know I didn’t find
that I found I could go shake people’s
hand and you know I found them very nice
there were a few gruff people that I ran
into but it wasn’t I would not say it’s
a tree spreading the love everything is
sight sound smell seeing different
ethnicities walking around it’s really
kind of cool there’s a resiliency here
and that’s part of what I know – you’ve
got the Chinatown you’ve got all the
different districts and there’s such a
resiliency that I feel like I say a
vibrancy but there’s also the resilience
to thrive to me it’s very crowded
possibly very very noisy but no matter
what the challenge is just like in my
environment I have many challenges to
overcome you know New Yorkers are
dealing with their own challenges and
coming out on top
