Jason Silva on Superstition | Brain Games

your brain is a pattern making and
pattern seeking machine it’s connecting
the dots and making inferences drawing
meaning from the world but often it can
think it’s detecting a pattern when in
fact it isn’t it can make mistakes it
can create or perceive things that
aren’t really there you know people call
the false patterns pattern isset II you
know the brains tendency to see things
that aren’t there because it really
wants to believe that they are so of
course they visit so this is the space
the landscape in which superstition
lives as science demystifies the
universe there is an existential angst
that it will take away all semblance of
meaning from our existence as well and
there is a terror to a meaningless
existence because why are we here of
everything and everyone
to die one day we’re going to lose
everything
if we’re just these temporary 18b who
can ponder the infinite but our house
that aren’t pumping breath gasping
decaying bodies sometimes my friend
superstitious thinking is the only thing
we have so you can see the context in
which that might be used I could see the
value of the house would be dangers
you
