Hoverboards Are Real | National Geographic

my name is Greg Henderson I’m CEO and
co-founder with my wife Jill we’ve been
working on hover technology for a couple
of years however we’ve been working for
a very long time to build more safely
for things like earthquakes if you can
levitate a train why not a house and if
you’re going to hover I can’t think of
anything more exciting to build in a
hoverboard hover engines push off a
magnetic field that they create in a
passive conductive surface the
hoverboard right now requires about 40
watts per kilogram about a quarter of
the energy that a helicopter uses to
break its connection with the earth once
you break that contact with the earth
friction goes away that’s where all the
benefit is we have the potential to go
faster than anything on wheels the
difference between our technology and
current magnet technologies there’s no
track so we’re free to move in any
direction when you know all or have to
touch the ground you can plant freeways
and hover over them freeways can become
greenways the potential of carbon
negative transportation right now we’re
using batteries however there are a lot
of ways of storing energy and we can use
any of them to power hoverboard we’re
very excited to bring that technology to
all
