boy I’m Dallas Seavey I’m a professional
sled dog racer in 2012 I finished in
front of my dad and became the youngest
person ever to win the Iditarod come on
guys I taught Dallas everything he knows
but I haven’t taught him everything I
know so Dallas is just gonna have to
stay out of my way
Ruby thank my wife daughter and I live
in three acres in Willow Alaska we have
a hundred sled dogs and we live in a
yurt nothing too fancy I don’t think my
dad and definitely not my mom would ever
want to live in a yurt at least not at
this phase in their life
well our property is about a hundred and
fifty 155 acres in the past we’ve had
some issues in other locations with some
dog noise and neighbors and so forth so
we bought the biggest piece of property
we could afford and located right in the
middle of it we loved the atmosphere
here in the environment we’re blessed
with a nice home that my wife sort of
spearheaded getting that built here I
was a coffee situation Mitch may be the
only person that is more competitive
than Dallas he coached Dallas and I
think he transferred a lot of that
competitive drive directly to Dallas the
boys are definitely competitive Dallas
has dirt that they live in and it’s cool
yurt I like it there and it’s very
efficient but we have a lot more land a
lot more infrastructure here than he
does on in welcome to the yurt mansion
basically a glorified tent
we got the latticework on the inside
that’s the only thing that’s holding
this whole place up and the cable on top
suspends all the beams and it’s kind of
a self-standing structure and then a
little bit insulation around the outside
and a vinyl covering a little wood stove
one bedroom upstairs kitchen we live in
a yurt because it was in the right place
and we could afford it it’s beautiful in
the summertime it’s beautiful in the
wintertime we do burn a lot more heating
oil trying to keep the thing warm in the
winter a little bit of a pain that way
but it’s kind of the Alaskan lifestyle
so this window stays open all winter
long and if it gets real cold especially
your cooking and steam and stuff up in
here this window will just be about that
thick with ice and that’s when we
actually have insulation on the window
is when it ices up
I don’t think I’d want to live in a yurt
too many things get in like mosquitoes
and notably the cold dinner’s ready
that’s one reason it’s good to be chief
yeah it’s the joys of living in a yurt
you end up with just massive amounts of
ice on the inside of your house and
problem is then when it melts it all
abrupt turns into water and runs all
over the floor
and when you live in a Ken I guess it’s
a little bit miserable at times but it
also keeps you in touch with the world
around you
yeah it’s home tons of natural light not
very warm and I trapped uh mosquitoes in
the summertime
