Bone Up | Jurassic CSI

for many animals a broken bone is
usually the end of the road if you’re
not done in by starvation from not being
able to track down prey
sooner or later disease and infection
will take over but dinosaurs seemed to
be an exception to the rule
they’ve suffered massive blows and lived
to tell about it
well at least through their fossilized
remains without the help of a Dino
doctor on site it begs the question did
dinosaurs have super healing powers meet
sue the largest t Rex ever unearthed
nearly 65 million years later her body
still bears the marks of serious battle
wounds injured vertebrae cracked ribs a
bashed arm and attendant ripped from the
bone this dinosaur definitely picked a
lot of fights but what’s remarkable is
that she survived them all and lived
well into her prime
to find out how scientists scanned one
of her wounded bones to create a
high-tech computer model of her bone
structure that looks brutal really does
the results confirmed that the trauma to
the bone was absolutely massive and the
bright white material found around the
injury shows that not only did Suh
successfully repair the broken bone but
it also suggests that perhaps the
repaired bone was as strong if not
stronger than its original shape and
this injury happened years before she
eventually died
proving that Suh was able to heal
quickly enough to return to the hunt and
just as importantly fight off deadly
infection in the process alligators
distant cousins to the dinosaur have an
amazing ability to ward off disease and
the secret lies in a super serum within
their blood if you compare a vial of
human blood to gator blood the alligator
has a staggering amount more of clear
plasma which contains infection-fighting
white blood cells when this plasma is
mixed with a nasty batch of mersa the
deadly bacteria resistant to most
antibiotics the alligator white blood
cells killed close to 98% of the
bacteria sample overnight while the
human infection fighters barely
scratched the surface conceivably in the
not-so-distant future we might be
accepting alligator blood donations and
since dinosaurs have a familial link to
alligators chances are they too had
super healing antibody strength coupled
with their ability to rapidly heal bones
the t-rex
an indestructible killing machine
