my name is David Sarnoff I am known for
running RCA Corporation and bringing
television into people’s homes covering
live events through television that had
never been seen before in history an
American genius does not necessarily
need to be an inventor an American
genius can be the businessman that
brings that invention to the consumer at
the end-user the American public without
the inventor there is nothing to bring
but without the businessman that
invention may as well be sitting on a
shelf my philosophy of business is you
have to surround yourself with a group
of people that are talented but you have
to help them know how to get the most
out of their talent Philo Farnsworth is
one of many opportunists during this era
of television coming into our lives that
felt he had discovered something that
was important that was very unique and I
think in the overall scheme of things
did not realize how he fit into the plan
he was not necessarily the first to
discover what he claimed that he did but
he is a very bright young man and
someone that I’ve given an opportunity
to unfortunately he cut his nose off to
spite his face and I’m sure that is a
decision that he will live to regret the
genius that was required to bring
the medium of television into people’s
lives was a certain business skill that
no one else had so David Sanborn and his
still is still winning I could imagine a
future where people can communicate
directly with each other I don’t know
exactly how be people in different
countries communicate with each other in
a more direct manner television is still
passive but using the same skill set to
find out what that technology is
patented and sell it everywhere I think
the moral of the story is that if you’re
willing to put in hard work if you have
a vision if you have a goal if you’re
driven especially if you come here to
this country as an immigrant the
American genius doesn’t have to be an
American the American genius is an idea
that starts right here and that idea
whether you’re an inventor again or a
businessman through hard work through
dedication through communication you can
succeed tremendously and make a
difference in other people’s lives
