The Steps To Success – Abandon The Money – Motivational Video


my advice is just do things that are
true to you you know you know most
things that I’m involved with our
extension of being creative you know
Rockaway is a clothing company you know
so I would just say get involved in
things that you love and also have you
know have a standard for yourself and
have some sort of integrity and try to
you know find some sort of truth in what
you’re doing
people that build great things in any
business anywhere they all have one
thing in common they loved the process
if you start a building or a company
because it’s money you can’t wait to get
the building finishing and have the cash
flow you’ll get the building finished
and you’ll probably have the cash flow
but if you love the idea of creating a
building you love the process of solving
the problems of digging into the details
of tearing up the paper and over and
over again revisiting a room a lobby a
restaurant to get it so that it really
feels good if you’ve got a passion for
process you’re the kind of a person if
you’re surrounded by good colleagues
then that’s a team that produces
superior projects

going in entrepreneurs need to realize
that sometimes it’s not the idea you
know it’s not the it’s not who you know
it’s not how much money or that sister’s
it’s really finding something that means
you really love to do I have no idea I
love computers and technologies none I
mean I took one class in Indiana and
computers and I cheated to get through
it in torturing them and then I bought
it a little PC in 99 for a from Texas
Instruments for $99 started teaching
myself to program and found you know
four hours later five hours later I
would look up and I’ve been working this
entire time and I loved it and so that
was the difference when I finally I
failed a lot of time and I really I
didn’t know where I would find my
success and then all of a sudden I
started playing with PCs and technology
and it just clicked I loved what I was
doing I decided what I’m going to do a
job I loved what I was doing I was walk
around I would dance some things as I
was delivering my paper and that kind of
helped me put a future of what I wanted
to do and now we’re just being a young
officer you know I thank God every day
that I’m blessed with your chance to do
something that I love doing
I feel anybody could be something that
that they love you in the face if they
go after it in the right way if they go
after it with the love the motivation
for the love and missing the love of
leaving a legacy behind more than the
selfishness of just doing it for money
but doing it to blow off or to be the
man or the woman but I have the same if
you do it to make history if you do it
to change people’s lives to make people
feel good to make yourself feel good
it’s going to come it’s just gonna come
naturally
don’t necessarily think that you have to
have the home run in the huge Apple
Computer on your first start I spent a
long time in my life with skills just
building little devices for fun for fun
is one of the key things does that drive
you to think and think and think and
make it better and better and better
than you ever would if you’re doing it
for a company build things at first for
yourself that you would want

first of all you have to make sure that
this thing is for you and it’s who you
are and you’re built for this you know
and then you have to give it the passion
that’s necessary you know like I said I
don’t do it for the money the money is
going to come I do it because of the
love that I have for it you know I’m
saying if I was a plumber or something
like that I still would make it pop
records that’s how much love I have for
it you know I feel like right now I’ve
been in the game cook for 27 years and
I’ve actually thought about this just
recently out of Ben 527 my 27 year
career there’s only been two weeks that
I’ve been out of the studio
there’s I’ve never been out of studio
longer than two weeks in my entire
career that’s how much love I have for
this thing that I do so that’s the thing
just a passion that you have for it and
really really put your all into it and
make sure that your world is the last
word that way you don’t you know you
don’t play the blame game or anything
like that if it comes out hot it’s on
you if it doesn’t come out hot it’s on
you you’re insane
that’s all it is to it

the difference between people who are
successful or not although those who are
successful seem to know from age of
seven or eight maybe older you know
they’re very in tune with what they love
they compared to a voice inside their
head not literally a voice but something
excite you really are drawn to this
subject and they hear it throughout
their lives for me it was it was writing
and books since I was a kid and you know
anytime I deviated from that love and
went into something else I just was so
unhappy I knew that I wasn’t doing the
right thing and so it’s just like this
place that keeps drawing me back to what
you really really love

you know I think that success in
business is a very difficult thing to
achieve and it’s more difficult today
probably than any other time despite the
best number of opportunities and as it
relates to finding your calling in terms
of what the opportunity or the opposite
entrepreneurial adventure is going to be
it has to be linked to something that
you are so passionate and crazed about
that you’re willing to knock down walls
and climb mountain and do the things
that are going to put yourself in the
position of sacrificing so many other
things for its success and you can only
do that when there’s a compelling
underlying feeling that you have that
this is something I’m going to fight to
the death to and without that I think
it’s going to be a commodity based
experience not only for the customer but
for you and I think you can’t really
succeed at the levels that you want to
and let’s you find that thing that
you’re so passionate excited in and
lovely and I think because he’s got it
along the way you’re going to have to
convince so many other people to believe
in you and the idea and the
opportunities and the struggles and the
obstacles of this that are going to come
and over only be overcome by this
passion that you have in which we’re
going to be able to get people to follow
you over though over those hurdles I
know it sounds a little bit sophomoric
but it’s still true
the great companies had a vision that
had a higher purpose beyond just money
or profits or fading number one in a
market and kind of the irony there is
that by not making profits the number
one priority of the company or the
higher purpose of the company it
actually enabled these companies to make
generate more profits in the long term
so sometimes when I speak at
entrepreneur conferences I get asked
what’s the good market to get into where
I make a lot of money and my response
isn’t is instead of thinking about where
you can make a lot of money think about
where are you so passionate about doing
that you’d be happy doing it for 10
years and even if you never made a dime
and that’s what you should be doing and
kind of the ironic thing is the money
will actually follow so we’ve all heard
of Craigslist
she didn’t set out to make money he was
passionate about the community and now
it’s one of the top traffic websites on
the internet so I like to say I chase
the vision not the money
