STOP THE TALKING! EPIC MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO [AMAZING]

most people do a lot of talking and most
people don’t put in the effort there’s
nothing you can’t accomplish in life
with the right amount of work the
challenge is you know are you willing to
do the work and the reality is most
people aren’t but that’s the opportunity
right is I mean it’s like people you
know at school most people are lazy
right they they just they barely get
through it and and so that creates
opportunity I tell my kids that a if
they want something they’re gonna have
to earn it
yeah and B if they don’t work hard
enough to earn it I’m gonna sell them
off as medical experiments people should
make new year’s resolutions if they’re
actually watching this video on January
1st if they’re watching it on December
23rd they should make December 23rd
resolutions waiting miraculously to win
the calendar flips to start making your
life better is silly at best and pisses
me off at worst and so whenever you’re
watching this
because it lives on the internet and
thus that means you could watch this on
June 17th 2017 make a resolution every
day of your life because you only get
one at-bat the reason people struggle
with having a new year’s resolution and
sticking to it is because it was a
tactic to do a new year’s resolution
hence why my first answer was right
which is when you actually decide to
make a change in your life whether about
weight or job or going out with somebody
or relationships that’s when you
actually pull it off it’s religion not
tactics action action you know one thing
that you know I can really attribute to
every failure in my life whether it be
personal financial in any kind of way
business whatever it’s because of a lack
of my attempt to take action I did not
take action and it kind of changed once
I got the fact that action is the key it
changed my life in many many ways
I never went to film school I never sort
of apprenticed under a filmmaker
I was never taught and I read a mentor
and never anybody that I followed and
the interesting thing that happens when
you don’t know the way is that you have
to find the way and I always get to the
destination which were these finished
movies but the path with which I employ
is radically different from what’s the
norm and again that’s not some I don’t
take credit for that as some genius
stylistic move it’s just I don’t know
like I still don’t know how to do proper
titles titling like my assistant editor
did those titles which is why most of
the movies on my youtube channel all the
titles were just hand written on paper
and then the piece of paper is filmed
because I don’t know how to do it right
I don’t know how to do After Effects so
all my animation is like be stopped
frame and now sort of in success I have
the opportunities to use all of the
tools that were always so elusive to me
so now it’s a much more conscious
decision to maintain this sort of the
handmade aesthetic take all the credit
in the world for the things that you do
right as long as you also take
responsibility for the things you do
wrong it must be a balanced equation you
don’t get it one way and not the other
you get to take credit when you also
take accountability
people are beset with a catastrophe like
let’s say the death of their father that
they are prone to use that as an excuse
for not going about the business that
they should be going about because they
can say to themselves well I would
accept and accept there’s always good
reasons I mean believe me there’s always
good reasons for not doing what you
should that’s for sure the reasons pile
up day after day to not do what you
should especially because you’re you’re
aiming at things in the future you can
put them off and definitely right
because of the demands of the day like
there’s no excuse whatsoever for not
getting at what it is that you should be
doing it’s absolutely reprehensible to
justify you’re in action with a
catastrophe that extracts mercy from
other people right there’s a tricky
tricky game that’s going well of course
I can’t do that look at the terrible
thing that’s just happened to me and see
how okay I understand you’re absolved of
any necessity to move forward because of
your current capacitor fee it’s like
well actually you’re not and it’s rather
rude of you to use it as an excuse and
it’s certainly counterproductive I spoke
at an education summit for Microsoft I
also spoke at an education summit or
Apple education from Mike at the
education summit for Microsoft I would
say that 70 percent of the executives
had spent about 70% of their
presentations talking about how to beat
Apple at the Apple education summit a
hundred percent of the executives spent
a hundred percent of their presentations
talking about how to help teachers teach
and how to help students learn one is
playing this way and one is playing that
way one is playing finite and the other
one is playing infinite guess which one
so at the end of my talk at Microsoft
they gave me a gift they gave me the new
Zune when it was a thing and let me tell
you this thing was spectacular
it was the most elegant piece of
technology I’d ever used the user
interface was incredible
the design was spectacular I absolutely
loved it it was easy to use and it was
bright and gorgeous Infant it didn’t
work on itunes which is a different
problem so I couldn’t use it but but it
was amazing and elegant my god it was
elegant
so I’m sitting in the back of the taxi
with a very senior Apple executive sort
of employee number 12 kind of guy and
you know I like to stir pots so I turned
him I said you know Microsoft gave me
their new Zune and it is so much better
than your iPod touch and he turned to me
and he said I have no doubt conversation
over because the infinite player
understands sometimes your head and
sometimes you behind sometimes your
product is better and sometimes it’s
worse the goal isn’t to be the best
every day the goal isn’t out to outdo
your competition every day that’s a
finite construction if I had said to
Microsoft I’ve got the new iPod touch
and it’s so much better than your Zune
they would have said can we see it what
does it do react react react react
finite players play to be bet to beat
the people around them infinite players
play to be better than themselves to
wake up every single day and say how can
we make our company a better version of
itself today than it was yesterday how
can we create a product this week that’s
better than the product we created last
week we also have to play the infinite
game it’s not about being ranked number
one it’s not about having more followers
on Twitter than your friends it’s not
about outdoing anyone it’s about how to
outdo yourself it’s not about selling
more books or getting more Ted views
than somebody else it’s about how to
make sure that
work that you’re producing is better
than you work you produced before you
are your competition and that is what
ensures you stay in the game the longest
and that is what ensures you find joy be
the biggest upsets and Sonny Liston and
I think it is befitting that I go out of
boxing just like I came in defeating a
big bad monster that nobody could
destroy a hard punch I’m the underdog if
he hits me I’m in trouble like the Sonny
Liston fight but I came back and I shook
the world and I got listen last ten
years since Sonny Liston I’m eating
another big bad strong monster knockout
artist that beats everybody Sonny Liston
knocked out Patterson twice and I was
supposed to fall but he didn’t knock me
out
because he could hit hard but he
couldn’t find me it George Foreman dr.
Ken Norton knocked out Joe Frazier true
I didn’t knock him out but I’m so fast
I’m so hard he looks so scientific I’m a
totally different man from Frazier
Norton listen David when I meet this man
if you think the world was surprised
when Nixon resigned wait’ll I quit
fooling behind
[Applause]
I’m telling you David I’m down with 215
pounds right now said it went to 15 I’m
fighting weight already I’ll use a train
six weeks for fight I’ve trained for
months looks like I’m chopping trees
I’ve done something special I’ve
I believe you can tussle what a whale
out of handcuffed lightning both Thunder
in jail now you know I’m bad on the last
week I’m murder the rock hinge of the
Stone hospitalized a brick I’m so mean I
he further George Foreman they talk
about how hard he hits the world has
been deceived you listen to me now never
told you wrong the man don’t hit hard he
knocked Joe Frazier down six time he got
up six time Joel King Roman is Tokyo
Japan fight the Puerto Rican champion
knocked him down three times he jumped
up three times he knocked in Norton down
four times he jumped up four times what
if he ever saw the man say seven eight
nine ten
kanna’s man out when I hit Sonny Liston
the second fight he stayed out for the
count of ten Zhora Foley stayed off from
the count of ten Cleveland Williams down
for the count of ten what do I have
knocked out stay down Sugar Ray Robinson
locked the mouth with counter thirty Joe
Lewis Marciano Jack Dempsey Jack Johnson
aren’t you more as a child they knock
him out cold so this man is never not
nobody out cold he’s a bully he’s slow
was 25 or so I probably weighed about
138 pounds I smoked like a pack of
cigarettes day I drank tremendous amount
of alcohol I was from northern Alberta
this rough little town up and northern
Alberta called Fairview and you know
there were long winters there and my
friends were heavy drinkers and most of
them dropped out of school by the time
they were 15 or 16 went off to work on
the oil rigs and you know it was a rough
town and we drank a lot I started when I
was 14 and you know and so I was I had a
lot of bad habits let’s say and things
that were and I wasn’t in great shape
physically and I was also still
intellectually obsessed by as I am now
and so that would have been that would
have been in 85 but when I but I decided
around that about 85 84 or something
like that maybe a little earlier that I
was really gonna try to get my act
together and so I started doing that I
you know I first of all I quit smoking
well that took a long time because I
eventually had to quit drinking to in
order to quit smoking and I started
working out started playing sports which
I’d never done I had a fine time when I
was a kid and but I needed really to get
disciplined and I had to do it because I
was working on these hard problems that
you know that I’ve been discussing with
all of you and I’ve been working on them
really you know obsessively since I was
probably about 18 maybe even earlier
than that got to the point around 25
when I was in graduate school trying to
get my PhDs doing all my research like I
published 15 papers by the time I
graduated with my PhD which was by I
think by a fairly large measure the most
papers that any graduate student at that
time had ever published at McGill I
think that’s right might have been twice
as many or maybe twice as many maybe
even three times as many and at the same
time I wrote maps of meaning which was a
terrible terrible terribly difficult
thing to do because I was writing about
three hours a day doing that and I
couldn’t do all that and continue with
my misbehavior you know my sort of my
what would you say my my my hedonistic
my massive hedonistic consumption of
alcohol and all of that I just couldn’t
keep it up and also work seriously on
the issues that were at hand so you know
I had to stop that’s a sacrifice I had
to stop to know what motivates you and
it’s different for different people you
might not care about cars
you know you might like travel or
freedom from a nine-to-five job whatever
your thing is find out your mix I wish
the school system had taught us this you
know we learned so many things that we
don’t need in school you learn isosceles
triangles in the history of Mesopotamia
but what about how to be productive
overcome procrastination figure out what
motivates you for me it’s a mix of a
little bit of materialistic things some
non materialistic things like freedom
and travel ability to help other people
help my family help charities that mix
gets me out of bed every day and you got
you have to go out and find people who
are successful financially and reverse
engineer what they did reverse engineer
re I keep that little acronym in my head
it’s one of the most powerful acronyms
that you can remember re reverse
engineer so for example when I was
starting out I was like what would it
take to become a millionaire and I go
alright win the lottery a lot of people
play the lottery and then some people
one or two become millionaires but if
you reverse engineer I asked myself this
one day I started study what makes the
most millionaires what’s made the most
millionaires and the United States
self-made not people who inherited their
money and the answer is tada
real estate now you don’t even have to
be trying to make a million dollars
every time a millionaire but just think
about that reverse engineer that and put
it into your life it’s not just about a
career but it’s about also passive
income because your careers active
income you work on your career you go to
your job even if you’re an entrepreneur
right
but what about when you’re asleep here’s
a crazy statistic if you just listen to
this verse a if you make what’s minimum
wage let’s say let’s just say 15 bucks
an hour that’s $30,000 a year right but
what happens if you make $15 an hour
24/7 okay now that’s ninety thousand
dollars a year triple it but you can’t
work 24 hours a day so that means you
have to have this thing call a passive
income and passive income means I locked
myself in my own living room here well
god this way I was filming over here so
what I started doing is going I gotta
have my active income job career
entrepreneurship but I want to reverse
an engineer the passive income that the
most millionaires have ever the most
what has created the most millionaires
actually tougher than you think you
never knew that and maybe you didn’t
want to take on the responsibility
because you know people play a role in
their own demise so to speak when you
had opportunity to go out and explore or
withdraw because you were afraid you
chose to withdraw because you were
afraid so it’s not only that you were
over protected often it’s that you were
willing to take advantage of the fact
that you were over protected and run
back there whenever you had the
opportunity you know so maybe you’re a
kid in the playground right and you’re
having some trouble with other kids and
you know in the back of your mind I
should deal this with deal with this
myself but you go and tell your mom and
get her to intervene and you know that
that’s not right you know that you’re
breaking the social contract but it’s
easier and so that’s what you do you run
off to an authority figure and hide
behind the Great Father right roughly
speaking well the problem with that is
you don’t learn how to do it yourself so
then you have to relearn it painfully
when you’re 40 so then you take people
out you say well what are you afraid of
rank it from 1 to 10 so 10 is make a
list of 10 things you’re afraid of the
least the thing you’re least afraid of
will call number 10 so we’ll start with
that
ok well I’m afraid of elevators ok well
let’s let’s look at a picture of an
elevator let’s have you imagine being in
an elevator let’s go out to an elevator
and let you watch the terrible jaws of
death open because that’s how you’re
responding to it symbolically right and
you’re gonna do that at it at the the
closest proximity you can manage you
find out you go do that
it works you’re nervous as hell
especially at from an anticipatory
perspective shaking you go out you stop
you watch it happen and you actually
calm down you do that 10 times it no
longer bothers you well what you’ve
learned that you didn’t die but more
importantly than that you’ve learned
that you could withstand the threat of
death that’s what you’ve learned and
then you move a little closer and then
you move a little closer and then you
move a little closer and finally you’re
back in what’s no longer the elevator
from a symbolic perspective it’s a tomb
right it’s it’s it’s a place of
enclosure and isolation and you learn
hmm
turns out I can withstand that and then
you’re met much more
the other much more confident and that’s
often one of the things that often
happens in situations like that I’ve
seen this multiple times is that if you
run someone through an exposure training
process like that and toughen them up
they’ll often start standing up to
people around them in a way they never
did before the thing that changes your
life people ask me is it a book that you
read it’s that people go I want to
become an investor in general what
changes your life there’s a good book on
this by Jim Collins one of the top
business writers it’s luck events of who
you meet so I go to I went to that Omaha
Nebraska investor meeting because by
being around other investors I deal in
person but when you can’t do it in
person it can be through a book or
through a video that’s what teaches you
how to become an investor it’s not like
life’s not just all about facts like
okay you invest in real estate or you
invest the stock market and
automatically you make money no it’s
it’s more sophisticated than that you
have to pick up from people their vibes
you have to pick up their habits their
intuition that’s how you become a great
you concentrate solely on your career
you can get a long way in your career
and I would say that that’s a strategy
that a minority of men preferentially do
that that’s all they do
they worked like 70 80 hours a week they
go flat out on their career they’re
staking everything on the small
probability of exceptional status in a
narrow domain but it’s it’s hard on them
they don’t have a life it’s very
difficult for them to have a family they
don’t know how to take any leisure
activity like they get very one
dimension now it may be that that unit
dimensionality is the price you have to
pay to be exceptional at one thing right
because if you’re going to be something
like a genius level mathematician and
you want to do that
for a scientist say it’s like you’re in
your lab you’re in your lab all the time
you’re working 70 hours a week or 80
hours a week you’re smart you’re
dedicated your unit dimensional and
that’s how you get to beat all the other
people who are doing that it’s the only
way but the problem is you don’t get a
life now if you love being a scientist
and you have that kind of focus of mind
well first of all you’re a rare person
and second you’re gonna pay for it but
find more power to you but but it’s a
it’s a risky business to do that you
sacrifice a lot for it you know and I
would say most often if you’re speaking
about having a healthy life that isn’t
what you do you spread yourself out more
so you know you have a family you have
some things that you do outside of work
that are meaningful to you and useful
you you have a network of friends that
that those three things alone are four
things alone are plenty to keep you well
oriented and then if one of those things
collapses
you know everything doesn’t go now the
price you pay for that is the more you
strive to optimize that balance the less
likely you are to be fantastically
successful at any single one of them but
you might have a very you know if you
consider your life as a whole that might
again anything important like this
nobody ever learned it in school because
schools are too stupid to take real
powerful science and apply it to life
but the dark triad is a worldview
barometer for everybody watching you can
take it there’s a different free dark
triad tests online it tests for three
main traits negative qualities
narcissism Machiavellianism and being
psychotic and I’ve personally tested
thousands and thousands of people it’s
the most accurate test and what happens
narcissism okay one of the symptoms of a
narcissist it’s not just like oh I like
to look in the mirror right that’s what
we think of Marcy
one of the classic symptoms is very
thin-skinned
they’re always offended if you have a
friend that anything you say
constructively they fall apart it’s
almost always narcissism even if they’re
introverted there’s multiple forms
there’s introverted narcissism
extroverted exploitative all these
different sub facets of narcissism but
we live in a society that’s very
narcissistic you’re told like everybody
is a winner
no not everybody’s a winner that’s like
saying everybody’s blonde there’s a
definition of what blonde is blonde is
like this yellowish hair so you lose
meaning when you start going and
everybody’s blonde
well everybody doesn’t win and the
sooner you wake up to that that biology
is ruthless man then you get a little
fear in you and when you get a little
fear in you you start listening because
if you’re truly afraid you listen let a
little fear come in and drive you in
and I was gonna test the joints steel
are supposed to be glued together with
this pipe glue right and I said I told
him I had to test the joints and he said
well you don’t have to test my joints
they never leak and I thought yeah
that’s okay how about if I test them so
I went up on the third floor and filled
the pipes with water capping them in the
basement like you’re supposed to it like
half an hour later I had two inches of
water in the basement there were thirty
leaking joints that was the night before
the drywallers were supposed to show up
so well so he wasn’t particularly
competent that’s the point of that story
but even more so he had put a bunch of
the plastic pipe outside where the
drywall would be so it would have been
sticking through the wall so I spent a
frenetic night you know sawing through
plastic pipe and reglue in joints so
that my home well so that the dryer
owners could come in what’s the point if
you’re gonna be a plumber man be a good
plumber because otherwise all you do is
go out there and cause trouble we don’t
need people to cause more trouble we
need people to solve problems you know
and so you can be a tradesman and you
can be to make a lot of money as a
trades person it’s a bloody reliable
honorable forthright productive way of
making a living
and there is a hell of a lot of
difference between a working man who
knows what he’s doing and one who
doesn’t both in terms of skill and
ethics right and you work with someone
who knows what they’re doing it’s a
bloody pleasure they tell you what
they’re gonna do they tell you how much
it will cost they go and do it it works
and you pay them perfect everyone’s
happy and that’s what happens when you
have genuine hierarchies of competence
and so you till you listen to these
panderers of egalitarian gely
egalitarianism and equity and they fail
to recognize completely that there are
differences in rank between people it’s
not such a terrible thing man maybe you
wouldn’t be a great lawyer like it’s
certainly possible most people aren’t
but that doesn’t mean there isn’t
something you could be great at there’s
lots of hierarchies to attempt to climb
and if you fail in one go try in another
but the point is you’re still trying to
aim for the top and what the hell are
you gonna do if you don’t try to aim for
the top you know flap about uselessly
and whine about your life it’s not
helpful they’ll just make you miserable
you’re not reliable to anyone you can’t
help out in a crisis
it’s like so you tell young people and
this is another message for
conservatives like I don’t care what
you’re gonna do but go out there make
something of yourself for God’s sake be
an honest person and work and get to the
top of whatever it is that you want to
get to the top of you know and and and
and then stand up for yourself like a
respectable human being and be a bit of
a light on the world instead of a blight
you know and you can tell young people
that and they haven’t been told that by
anyone now and so the young men are so
hungry for that that it’s it’s painful
to watch
they’re so relieved when someone finally
comes up and says hey you know you
should get your act together a bit
discipline yourself see if you can learn
to tell the truth concentrate on
something for a year or two you could be
a bloody world beater they think really
that’s possible wow that would be that
would be interesting that might make
life or life worth living it’s like yeah
it might so why don’t you go do it now
that’s what the damn universities were
supposed to be teaching people they’ve
forgotten that I went to Harvard a month
ago a month and a half you used to teach
there and I talked to a bunch of
students you know and I told them it’s
not easy to get into Harvard you know
like you’re a valedictorian if you’re at
Harvard and not only are you a
valedictorian you’re way better than
most people at at least two other things
or you don’t get it and so that gets I
don’t know what the acceptance rate is
like 5% and believe me not everybody
applies so it’s a very selective school
and so why am I saying that it’s like
these are high quality kids so I told
them what I just told you it’s like here
you are at Harvard it’s like get
yourself educated man read some books
learn to talk learn to think make
yourself into something get the hell out
there and make the world that put you
here happy that you were put there in
that great institution you know and they
came up to me afterwards and said god I
wish someone would have told us that
when we were in our first year it’s like
Jesus why didn’t someone tell them that
for God’s sake it’s supposed to be the
greatest university in the world is it
[Music]
one of the richest billionaires in the
world he bought this house in 1958 one
of the reasons most people call
financial matrix is that’ll teach you in
school you should invest in things that
don’t appreciate you know so he does
have a house and houses real estate so
it’s somewhat good investment but most
of he makes 200 billion dollars a year
cash flow not all net but he makes that
investing in businesses he does some
real estate that’s what you got to do or
else like I said people trapped in the
financial matrix the financial matrix is
basically where you work for somebody
and you never break free so you’re like
this slave and so you have to have
create excess cash you got to create
investments that work for you while you
sleep while he’s sleeping in this house
that he bought in 1958 for probably I
don’t know a hundred grand these
businesses are generating you know 20
billion dollars a year for them for them
and you can replicate that on a small
scale you don’t have to do twenty
billion but you have to learn how to
self educate yourself don’t get stuck in
the problem with being lost is when
you’re lost you don’t know where to go
and the problem with not knowing where
to go is there’s a million places that
you could go and a million places is too
many places for you to go without dying
so being lost is not good so you need to
know where you are and you can kind of
tell if you don’t know where you are
it’s quite straightforward if you are
haunted by reveries of the past for
events that are older than approximately
18 months if they continue to come up in
your mind over and over and your dreams
over and over
you haven’t extracted the world out from
your past experiences the potential is
still trapped in the past and to
confront the potential means to confront
the dragon of the past and of course
that’s terrifying and it can seriously
be terrifying so you’re navigating
you’re a navigator you’re a sailor on an
ocean and that’s what that’s what you
are you’re a mobile creature you’re
going from point A to point B all the
time you know it’s sitting there glued
to a rock like some brainless you know
sea creature there’s a funny little
creature called a Hydra very simple
little creature in its juvenile stage it
has a brain because it swims around but
then when it turns into an adult it
latches itself to a rock and promptly
digests its brain because if you’re just
sitting on a rock and you’re not moving
you don’t need a brain so but that’s not
our issue right we’re we’re zipping
around in the world and so we’re
navigating agents so to navigate there’s
two things you need to know the first is
where the hell are you exactly precisely
right
razorsharp what’s good about you and
what’s bad about you by your own by your
own reckoning you don’t have to you can
ask other people but this is a game you
play yourself it’s like as far as I’m
concerned I’m taking star what is it
that’s okay about me and what needs some
work and you got to watch to not be too
self-critical when you’re doing that too
because that can just be another kind of
do not be a 450-pound person making fun
of other people for being overweight
just focus on yourself and learn from
the world don’t take that attitude of
huh oh really
nobody great is gonna prove their point
to you for the most part they’re gonna
say what they have to say this guy’s
dead
he does not care what you think about
his book if you’re able to go through
this and glean three things that change
your life forever then that’s great for
you so have that attitude of ah look for
aha moments at every moment in your day
I started keeping a billboard in my
staff and I’m like guys it’s getting
lopsided look at all that and I put a
little mark every time I had a good idea
for the business and I’m like I want
your side now more than mine there’s no
rule that I have to have all the good
ideas be innovative be innovative read
books like this fine little innovations
for your own life our rewards in life
will always match our service it’s
another way of saying as you sow so
shall you reap
and it’s been written in many ways in
every language on earth I like to think
of this law in the form of a giant
apothecary scale one of the bones is
marked service the others mark rewards
now whatever we put into the ball marks
service the world will match in the ball
mark rewards if any person alive is
discontented with his rewards he should
examine the service action reaction as
you sow so shall you reap what you put
in will determine what you must get back
in return so simple so basic so true and
yet so misunderstood if a business is
not expanding to the quick and exciting
tempo of the times it must examine its
contribution its service if a person is
unhappy with his income he must examine
and re-evaluate his service never before
in the history of the world have human
beings business
interdependent it is impossible to live
without serving others as it would be
the liveth others were not constantly
serving us in thinking of ways of
increasing your service read books on
your specialty read what others have
found to work well for them but at the
same time think of original and creative
ways of increasing your service ways
that are unique with you and the way you
are each morning and during the day ask
yourself this question how can I
increase my service today knowing that
my rewards in life must be an exact
proportion to my service I do this every
day and you will have started to form
one of life’s most valuable habits
Horace Mann wrote if any man seeks for
greatness let him forget greatness and
ask for truth and he will find both you
see you can cut away all the confusion
and complications and nagging worries
and vague half-formed
fears by returning to the great truth
the great laws the great parodies on
which all success all accomplishment the
whole world is built if you’re worried
about your income or your future you’re
concentrating on the wrong end of the
scale look at the other end concern
yourself only with increasing your
service with becoming great where you
are and your income and your future will
take care of themselves and your mind
change your life everybody wants to
change life but you have to change your
mind humans are different because we
have powerful minds and sometimes I gets
us in trouble but if you pull it off
right it can bring you those things that
you need in life those things that
you’re missing you know everybody wants
the good life like I say my TEDx talk
everybody wants the good life but not
everybody gets the good life because
most people aren’t willing to do this
stuff then it takes then I willing to
put in the time put in the grind I want
to recommend that you take just one hour
a day five days a week and work this
hour to exercise in your mind
pick one hour a day on which you can
fairly regularly count and during this
hour every day take a completely blank
sheet of paper at the top
the page write your present primary goal
clearly simply then since our future
depends upon the way in which we handle
our work write down as many ideas as you
can for improving that which you now do
try to think of 20 possible ways in
which the activity that fills your day
can be improved you won’t always get 20
but even one ideas good now remember two
important points with regard to this one
this is not particularly easy and to
most of your ideas won’t be any good and
when I say it’s not easy I mean it’s
like starting any new habit at first
you’ll find your mind a little reluctant
to be hold up and out of the old
familiar rut but as you think about your
work in ways in which it might be
improved write down every idea that pops
into your mind no matter how absurd it
might seem let me tell you what will
happen some of your ideas will be good
and worth testing the most important
thing this X tower accomplishes however
is that it deeply embeds your goal in
your subconscious mind starts ajo vital
machinery working and twenty ideas a day
if you come up with that many total a
hundred a week even if you don’t think
on weekends an hour a day five days a
week toast 260 hours a year and still
leaves you three thousand seven hundred
and forty hours of free leisure time and
this means you’ll be thinking about your
goal and ways of improving our
performance increasing your service six
and I have full extra working weeks a
year six and a half 40-hour weeks
devoted to thinking and planning can you
see how easy it is to rise above the
so-called competition and will still
leave you with fifteen hours a day this
appendage of please starting each day
thinking you’ll find that your mind will
continue to work all day long you’ll
find that at odd moments when you least
expect it really great ideas will begin
to pop into your mind and when they do
write them down as soon as you can just
one great idea can completely
revolutionize your work and as a result
it’s myth of the solo entrepreneur I’m
gonna one good idea I’m gonna go out or
I’m gonna come up with his one invention
I was just reading a book I think it was
by craig Venter or one of these big
biotech guys and he said you know
there’s this huge myth that they’re
great breakthroughs happen from one
person having an individual moment of
genius the Steven Johnson talks about
this a lot in his book where good ideas
come from almost all great ideas come
from some collaborative effect and so
the best way to create a collaborative
effect is for you to take what you know
and clone it out to three or four people
or five people or at least one person
even if you let’s say for example
hypothetically you could get two people
to know 50% of what you know to be 50%
as effective as you well guess what two
people at 50% is another one of you and
you look out at the world and you go man
all the things that could be
accomplished if I just could didn’t have
to sleep and I could work 24 hours a day
or I could go out there Joel Salatin
told me that when he was here that I I
don’t have people sleep with all the
opportunities and so Joel my first
mentor he created his protege was his
son Daniel who now runs the operations
and frees Joel up to be in the big
picture and the company their farm is
more successful polyphase farm in Joel’s
able to do other things you have to be able to do
