it’s best to earn some of that early
money in lifestyle go to the movies take
two vacations instead of one just some
little extra things that now the family
gets inspired by this new commitment to
earning more and becoming more and
making the studies and learning the
skills than whatever you have to do now
you make it more worthwhile for the
family by thinking of lifestyle changes
that now become very exciting go to the
concert my parents said don’t miss
anything
don’t miss the play the music the songs
performances the movie whatever is
happening at age 93 my father before he
died if you would have called him at
10:30 11 o’clock at night he wouldn’t be
home he’s at the rodeo he’s at church
he’s at the play the performance he’s
watching the kids play softball in age
93 so he did it as well as taught it
don’t miss anything so those changes in
lifestyle when I started making some
extra money I opened up an account for
my wife and I called it no questions
asked account
and I said here is the checkbook for a
new account and it’s called no questions
asked I’ll just keep putting money in
there and you spend it for whatever you
wish it was life changing it wasn’t a
fortune but she didn’t have to ask any
more for money because I could sense
that it was a little embarrassing at
times when she had to ask me for money I
thought well that’s not good so the
first time I get a chance here’s what
I’m gonna do and sure enough I did it no
questions asked to count you can’t
believe what that did it was absolutely
amazing anything you can think of that
helps to change lifestyle it’s called
making a living but also making a life
lifestyle social friendships you know
church community country all those
things that make a composite of our
overall life start furnishing that with
new vigor vitality money whatever it
takes to
expand your life into what I call the
good life as well as economics and
doesn’t take a lot how much is a movie
right even for a person of modest means
six dollars or something costs sixty
million to make it and only cost six
dollars to see it part of it’s just
simply priority less soft drinks more
movies everybody’s got the money the
story I tell of the lady who invested
the dollar now she’s a millionaire so
she had the dollar depends on where you
put it
confidences experiences plans for the
future accomplishments it’s exciting
probably nothing more rewarding than
conversation sometimes you need to be
alone for all of my busy life you know
from Milan to New York to Paris to
Mexico City to the giant cities of the
world
I do seek solitude but only for short
periods of time not long periods of time
but it is important for me to get away
think and ponder and wonder about my
life and what’s happening what’s going
on where to go from here but some of the
greatest rewards are in personal
conversation I’ve got some close friends
some mentors that have been around for
the last 50 years for me that a couple
of hours of conversation you’ve got
enough to feast on and live on for a
while till you can have the next one but
it’s easy to be a little too busy to go
to lunch with a close friend and not
miss it or spend an evening with two or
three families enjoy life you know how
much is a concert $25 $30 $40
some says what poor people can’t afford
to go to a concert see no it’s only
eight coca-cola’s it just depends so you
save up your soft drink money and you do
some special things so the lifestyle to
live well doesn’t cost a fortune
all it costs is paying attention then
the little dramas I told a story about
calling my father after my mother died
my father lived another eight years and
he spent one more year out in the farm
or which I still have up in Idaho where
I make a little line and grow a few
crops and lived a good life overlooking
the Snake River but my father spent one
more year the nights and then he got a
little lonely and so I got him a place
in this little farm village close by so
he could at least go there spend the
night
have breakfast and then jump in his car
and go back to the farm then there’s a
place close by called the decoy in
little cafe where my father most every
morning would have breakfast with the
farmers so I’d call him while he’s
having breakfast just takes ten minutes
Popeye him in Israel and they’d bring
him the phone and we’d have this
conversation and he’d talk real loud so
they could all hear the details they
gave me a reception last night on the
rooftop reception on the rooftop
underneath the stars pop pieces
underneath the stars so everybody gets
in on this little conversation he’s
having with me now he’s got a story to
tell for the rest of the day my son
called me from Israel and I know he had
to get up in the middle of the night
it makes it much more special day only
takes ten minutes easy too easy not to
I’d send him these postcards from around
the world and he’d save him show him
around when I get back some had a little
butter and jelly on him right where he’d
passed him around at breakfast then he’d
get to retell the story I was showing
these postcards to my friends and here’s
what happened and here’s what they said
and it just it keeps this lively
interchange between father and son going
how easy is it to get up in the morning
when you
you’re not doing all that it takes it’s
not very easy at all you can just lay
there awake thinking oh what’s a few
more minutes in bed it won’t matter much
anyway wrong
it does matter it will matter now how
easy is it to get up in the morning when
you’re pouring it on
doing the best you can anxious to get
going make progress toward your dreams
it’s a whole different story when you’re
resting to renew your reserves it’s much
different than resting to avoid your day
when you’re psyched up and excited for
your life when you’re excited for what
you’ve planned to accomplish for the day
it’s amazing you’ll wake up before the
alarm clock even tries to startle you
awake your successes fuel your ambition
your successes give you extra energy
your successes pave the way for more
successes
it’s the snowball effect with one
success you’re excited to meet another
and another and another and pretty soon
the disciplines that were so difficult
in the beginning the disciplines that
got you going are now part of your
philosophy how do you know when you’re
successful do you have to be a
millionaire no all we ask of you is that
you earn all you possibly can if you
earn 10,000 a year and that’s the best
you can do that’s enough God and
everything else will see to it that
you’re okay the key is to just do the
best you can if it’s ten thousand a year
wonderful if it’s a hundred thousand a
year wonderful if it’s a million a year
wonderful it doesn’t matter ten thousand
a year or a million a year it doesn’t
matter as long as you’ve done the best
you possibly can earn the most you
possibly can be the most you possibly
can and here’s why the essence of life
is growth the essence of life is growth
to do
do the best you can and here’s what’s
interesting
humans are the only life-form that will
do less than they possibly can humans
are the only life-form that will settle
for less every other life-form except
human beings strive to its maximum
capacity how tall will a tree grow
approximately as tall as it possibly can
you never heard of a tree growing half
as high as it could
no trees don’t grow half trees send
their roots down as deep as possible
stretch their limbs up as high as
possible produce every leaf possible and
every fruit possible as a matter of fact
you never heard of a human physically
growing half we keep growing until we’re
done now that’s a part of life we can’t
control it’s genetically coded and
that’s probably why we keep growing till
we’re done because we can’t control that
part it’s the rest of our growing that
we control the growing of our minds the
expansion of our minds that we can
control and that’s what tends to get
away from us all life-forms inherently
strive to their max except human beings
now why wouldn’t human being strive to
their maximum possibility here’s why
because we’ve been given the dignity of
choice it makes us different than
alligators and trees and birds the
dignity of choice makes us different
than all other life-forms and here’s the
choice to become part of what we could
be enough to get by or to become all
that we can be my best advice for you is
to choose the all earn all you can make
all the friends you can read as many
books as you can develop as many skills
as you can
see as much as possible do as much as
possible make as much fortune as
possible give as much of it away as
possible the max there’s no life like it
I’m telling you once I got on tracked
I’ve never looked back
pick up the challenge go for it take the
best of the two Easy’s take the root of
it’s easy to get ahead it’s easy to do
all you can it’s easy to succeed it’s
easy to have financial freedom the more
you do the more you get so the two
primary benefits of positive
reinforcement are number one to build
good habits and number two to create
more energy to fuel your ambitions your
desires your achievements
how can you isolate what’s working for
you and what isn’t how can you make sure
that you are reinforcing your positive
disciplines well if it isn’t apparent
easy to see right away if what you’re
doing is happening in such small
increments that you’re not sure if
you’re on track then you need to be
writing it down you need to keep a
journal anyway but if you really aren’t
sure that what you’re doing is making
measurable progress you need to keep a
written record you need to write down
everything that may be relevant in your
day what you did who you saw what you
felt how it may or may not affect you
now and in the future the best way to
track your activities of the day is to
write them down the best way to track
your activities of the week is to write
them down the best way to analyze your
progress through the year is to have
written it down why so you can look back
on it because by keeping a written
record of your life you will be more
accountable by putting into writing the
action steps that you have planned
you will easily see what works and what
doesn’t
most people just try to get through the
day never writing anything down never
keeping track of their progress along
the way never really knowing if they are
doing all they can to reach their goals
to drive their ambition but gifted
people learn to get from the day they
don’t let a day end without picking up
some valuable experience some emotional
content some idea that may positively
affect their future to get the most from
a day to learn the most from a day you
need to be able to reflect on the day
and how can you reflect on a day unless
you record it in history see if you can
find some ways to multiply your value to
the market place and he said your income
will immediately start to change up
until then I was hoping that the economy
would change I was hoping that my
company would change I was hoping that
my paycheck would change I was hoping
that circumstances outside would change
and then here’s what I found out it
isn’t going to change so then my
question was if it isn’t gonna change
how will my life ever change and here’s
what my teacher taught me when you
change when you change everything will
change for you when you get better
everything will get better for you
and that’s where I picked up that phrase
for things to change you’ve got to
change you don’t have to change the
marketplace you don’t have to change the
marketing plan you don’t have to change
the economy you don’t have to change
countries you don’t have to change
circumstances out there all you’ve got
to do is look within and see if you can
change yourself for the better and as
you change
things will start to change for you as
you know my story I met someone was I
was twenty five years old his name was a
real show he dropped into my life at an
extraordinary time so keyphrase timing
has a lot to do with it
and who knows part of the mystery of
time the timing part of the timing one I
was I just had that experience that I’ve
shared in other seminars when the Girl
Scout knocked on my door and I walked to
the door and she give me the big pitch
on the Girl Scout cookies best
organization in the world four girls got
several flavors time to buy the cookies
only $2.00 and with a big smile she very
politely asked me to buy no problem I
wanted to buy big problem I didn’t have
two dollars in my pocket and I didn’t
want to tell her that so I did what I
thought was the next best I lied to her
and I said hey look I’ve already bought
plenty of Girl Scout cookies they’ve
still got plenty in the house we haven’t
eaten yet she said oh that’s wonderful
thank you very much and she leaves when
she leaves I say to myself I don’t want
to live like this
I mean how low can you get lying to a
I told myself that day this will never
happen to me one of those experiences
it’s it’s called like life-changing I
said I’m gonna search till I find better
opportunities so my pocket will be empty
in the bank account will be empty and I
won’t be so far behind on my promises to
my family and it was shortly after that
I meet Earl shelf who taught me how to
be wealthy who taught me how to change
in my life so who knows what the
connection is
someone says when the student is ready
the teacher will appear you know I don’t
know all the mystery of that but anyway
it seems like some of those things
uniquely happen but it was mr. show for
over a five year period before he died
at age 49 who taught me some
extraordinarily simple things he only
went to the ninth grade in school never
finished high school never went to
college never went to university so he
put his ideas and his experiences in
very simple language which I think for
me you know kid from the farms of Idaho
that simplicity was so important because
if it would have been technical out of
missed it
if it would have been mystic I you know
I would have you know backed away but it
was just basic blunt ABC familiar stuff
that I hadn’t thought of before and he
did start to remind me and those ideas
changed my life mr. Joffe was the one
when I said you know this is all they
pay he said you’ve been working six
years mr. Owen how come you’re not doing
better and I said this is all the
company pays he says well that’s not
true I said no this is my paycheck this
is all the company pays he said no this
is all the company pays you I thought
that’s a new way to look at it right he
said doesn’t the company paid two three
four or five times this amount to other
people I said well yes he said well then
this is not all the company pays it’s
all they pay you and if you qualified
wouldn’t your income grow to three four
or five times they said I suppose so he
said we don’t have to work on the
company we have to work on you see that
was the beginning of what he called the
phrase personal
I told him things cost too much he said
no you can’t afford him I thought well
that’s a new concept I hadn’t thought
you know we put some of the valuable
things on the high shelf so you can’t
get to until you qualify if you want the
things on the higher shelf you got to
stand on the book you read every book
you read you get to stand a little
higher so you can get the things on a
higher shelf see I learned those
concepts it was so incredible and here
was the most important one success is
something you attract by the person you
become see that phrase changed my life
success is something you attract by the
person you become success is not
something you pursue it’s like chasing a
butterfly you can’t quite catch it
success is something you attract by
becoming an attractive person see those
were new concepts to me
I’m just working hard trying to make a
here’s what he said to me this changed
my life I got a chance to teach this in
Moscow and across Russia three visits
now the fourth here’s what chef taught
me profits are better than wages nobody
taught me that in high school nobody
taught me that I went to one year of
college nobody taught me profits are
better than wages wages make you a
living profits make you a fortune and
how could you work on both a living end
a fortune
he said well you could start part-time
working on your fortune while you’re
working full-time on your living I
thought oh now he said it’s fun to get
up in the morning not just getting up go
to work to pay the rent but to get up to
go to work to make a fortune first to
make a living for my family second to
make a fortune and he taught me how to
make both a living in a fortune guess
what I did I learned how to make both a
living in a fortune and I found out
anybody could do it once they get the
information and at age 25 I started
here’s what he said your income is
directly related to your philosophy not
to the economy I thought no one ever
told me there I kept hoping the economy
would change he said no your philosophy
has to change I assured him that I had
my fingers crossed he said that won’t
help
then what could I do to change my income
and multiply it by two by three by five
by ten and then multiplied by ten again
what could I do and he started giving me
the disciplines in the process of
learning the skills to change my life
this was an extraordinary man those were
extraordinary times for me life changing
in every manner that you can imagine but
very simple ABC concepts here’s what I
learned not to search for the exotic
until you’ve discovered the basic and
those basic philosophies that he shared
with me during that time were life
changing and he called it personal development
money in lifestyle go to the movies take
two vacations instead of one just some
little extra things that now the family
gets inspired by this new commitment to
earning more and becoming more and
making the studies and learning the
skills than whatever you have to do now
you make it more worthwhile for the
family by thinking of lifestyle changes
that now become very exciting go to the
concert my parents said don’t miss
anything
don’t miss the play the music the songs
performances the movie whatever is
happening at age 93 my father before he
died if you would have called him at
10:30 11 o’clock at night he wouldn’t be
home he’s at the rodeo he’s at church
he’s at the play the performance he’s
watching the kids play softball in age
93 so he did it as well as taught it
don’t miss anything so those changes in
lifestyle when I started making some
extra money I opened up an account for
my wife and I called it no questions
asked account
and I said here is the checkbook for a
new account and it’s called no questions
asked I’ll just keep putting money in

still got plenty in the house we haven’t
eaten yet she said oh that’s wonderful
thank you very much and she leaves when
she leaves I say to myself I don’t want
to live like this
I mean how low can you get lying to a
I told myself that day this will never
happen to me one of those experiences
it’s it’s called like life-changing I
said I’m gonna search till I find better
opportunities so my pocket will be empty
in the bank account will be empty and I
won’t be so far behind on my promises to
my family and it was shortly after that
I meet Earl shelf who taught me how to
be wealthy who taught me how to change
in my life so who knows what the
connection is
someone says when the student is ready
the teacher will appear you know I don’t
know all the mystery of that but anyway
it seems like some of those things
uniquely happen but it was mr. show for
over a five year period before he died
at age 49 who taught me some
extraordinarily simple things he only
went to the ninth grade in school never
finished high school never went to
college never went to university so he
put his ideas and his experiences in
very simple language which I think for
me you know kid from the farms of Idaho
that simplicity was so important because
if it would have been technical out of
missed it
if it would have been mystic I you know
I would have you know backed away but it
was just basic blunt ABC familiar stuff
that I hadn’t thought of before and he
did start to remind me and those ideas
changed my life mr. Joffe was the one
when I said you know this is all they
pay he said you’ve been working six
years mr. Owen how come you’re not doing
better and I said this is all the
company pays he says well that’s not
true I said no this is my paycheck this
is all the company pays he said no this
is all the company pays you I thought
that’s a new way to look at it right he
said doesn’t the company paid two three
four or five times this amount to other
people I said well yes he said well then
this is not all the company pays it’s
all they pay you and if you qualified
wouldn’t your income grow to three four
or five times they said I suppose so he
said we don’t have to work on the
company we have to work on you see that
was the beginning of what he called the
phrase personal
I told him things cost too much he said
no you can’t afford him I thought well
that’s a new concept I hadn’t thought
you know we put some of the valuable
things on the high shelf so you can’t
get to until you qualify if you want the
things on the higher shelf you got to
stand on the book you read every book
you read you get to stand a little
higher so you can get the things on a
higher shelf see I learned those
concepts it was so incredible and here
was the most important one success is
something you attract by the person you
become see that phrase changed my life
success is something you attract by the
person you become success is not
something you pursue it’s like chasing a
butterfly you can’t quite catch it
success is something you attract by
becoming an attractive person see those
were new concepts to me
I’m just working hard trying to make a
here’s what he said to me this changed
my life I got a chance to teach this in
Moscow and across Russia three visits
now the fourth here’s what chef taught
me profits are better than wages nobody
taught me that in high school nobody
taught me that I went to one year of
college nobody taught me profits are
better than wages wages make you a
living profits make you a fortune and
how could you work on both a living end
a fortune
he said well you could start part-time
working on your fortune while you’re
working full-time on your living I
thought oh now he said it’s fun to get
up in the morning not just getting up go
to work to pay the rent but to get up to
go to work to make a fortune first to
make a living for my family second to
make a fortune and he taught me how to
make both a living in a fortune guess
what I did I learned how to make both a
living in a fortune and I found out
anybody could do it once they get the
information and at age 25 I started
here’s what he said your income is
directly related to your philosophy not
to the economy I thought no one ever
told me there I kept hoping the economy
would change he said no your philosophy
has to change I assured him that I had
my fingers crossed he said that won’t
help
then what could I do to change my income
and multiply it by two by three by five
by ten and then multiplied by ten again
what could I do and he started giving me
the disciplines in the process of
learning the skills to change my life
this was an extraordinary man those were
extraordinary times for me life changing
in every manner that you can imagine but
very simple ABC concepts here’s what I
learned not to search for the exotic
until you’ve discovered the basic and
those basic philosophies that he shared
with me during that time were life
changing and he called it personal development
