hello believe nation I’m Evan Carmichael
my one word is believe and I believe
that entrepreneurs are going to solve
all of the world’s major problems I
started to mentor me series with the
goal to try to learn from people who’ve
done a lot more than as people who have
done amazing things that by spending a
little bit more time with them hopefully
some of their values their belief
systems their way of thinking
seeped into us to help us become the
best version of ourselves so to help you
on your journey today we’re going to
learn from Joel Osteen and some of his
best motivational speeches mentor me
Joel rule number one is my personal
favorite and I’d love to know which one
you guys like the best and as always
guys when you’re watching if you hear
something that really resonates with you

there’s a large company that has a
slogan that says that was easy a few
years ago a friend of mine sent me their
big red button when you push it it says
now I keep this by my bathroom sink
there on the counter
every so often I reach over and push
this button I like to get that phrase
down in my spirit because it’s easy to
go through life looking at our problems
focus on our obstacles thinking oh man
this is going to be so hard I dread
dealing with this it’s never going to
work out
that’s mindset is not only stealing our
joy but it’s keeping us from seeing
God’s favor when my dad went to be with
the Lord and I first started ministering
it took everything I had to write a
message for that weekend all my focus my
creativity my energy I was pressured
stressed when I finally finished I felt
like that’s the last one that I could
ever do and if I wasn’t careful I was
tempted to dread it and think this is
too hard
I’m not going to know what to say I
can’t do this anymore I had to turn it
around father thank you that your yoke
is easy thank you that I’m well able
thank you that you’ve equipped me and
empowered me I got my mind going in the
right direction I went through seasons
of struggle strain difficulty but I
didn’t let it become permanent in my
thinking one day I came into this
anointing of ease what once was a
struggle is not a struggle anymore every
week when I finish a message I hit this
button just to remind me that it was
easy
quit telling yourself this is so hard
I’ll never accomplish my dreams I’ll
never get out of debt this is a new day
if the enemy can’t take you out all at
once his next strategy is to try to wear
you down many people are suffering from
battle fatigue they’ve been standing a
long time trying to break the addiction
believing for the promotion praying for
that family member but has
happened yet they never dreamed they’d
still be single still be dealing with
the illness still be trying to get the
loan now they’re tired let me encourage
you your time is coming your due season
is on the way
don’t let time talk you out of it don’t
let discouragement cause you to give up
don’t let negative thoughts convince you
to settle where you are your mind will
give you good excuses things like I’m
too tired to fight this addiction I’m
too tired to believe for my marriage too
tired to stretch to the next level been
doing it so long if you dwell on those
thoughts you will allow weariness in you
become more tired more weary more
discouraged more negative weariness
cannot automatically come you have to
open the door when thoughts tell you
it’s never going to work out it’s been
too long just say no thanks I know my
time is coming I know God is filling the
throne I am strong in the Lord
I’ve been armed with strength for this
battle when you give in to weariness you
lose your strength when you start
thinking it’s not fair it’s been so long
it’s never going to work out the energy
you need to move into your destiny is
being drained out I’m not asking you to
never feel weariness it will come I’m
asking you to not allow it in when
you’re weary you won’t have the passion
the determination the courage to fight
the good fight of faith
don’t let battle fatigue keep you from
your victory don’t let weariness stop
your dream from coming to pass you are
closer than you think
when it’s the most difficult you face
the greatest temptation to settle that
means the victory is near the promotion
the healing the breakthrough is about to
show up we all have had negative things
happen to us people did us wrong the
company laid us all a clerk was rude to
us it’s easy to go through life offended
in self-pity blaming others blaming
ourselves even blaming God
because we’re always looking back we
living the negative we end up carrying
around all this baggage that weighs us
down one of the best things we can learn
to do is drop it let it go whether it
happened 20 years ago or 20 minutes ago
don’t carry negative baggage from
yesterday into today you won’t live a
victorious life if you’re always
reliving what didn’t work out who hurts
you the mistakes you’ve made the reason
it’s called the past is because it’s
over it’s done it’s history
now do your part and let it go well Joel
they betrayed me
they walked away broke my heart that’s
why I’m bitter that’s why I’m upset
oh they hurt you once don’t let them
continue to hurt you by always thinking
about it as long as you’re dwelling on
that it’s going to keep you from the new
things God wants to do you may have a
lot of negative things in your past you
had a rough childhood
you lost a loved one your business
didn’t make it you could easily go
around with the chip on your shoulder
not trusting anybody bitter resentful
but everything you’ve gone through has
deposited something on the inside you’re
not defined by your past you’re prepared
by your past you may not realize it but
you came out stronger with more
confidence greater experience if that
hadn’t have happened you wouldn’t be
prepared for the new levels that are
coming your way don’t have that poor or
me look what I’ve been through attitude
I’ve heard it said you can be pitiful or
you can be powerful but you cannot be
both you may have made a lot of mistakes
you have a lot of regrets you blew your
marriage didn’t raise your children
right you can’t do anything about
yesterday living guilty and condemned
does it make it any better you have to
drop in you are where you are today in
part because of what you’ve been saying
about yourself words are like
when you speak something out you give
life to what you’re saying if you
continue to say it eventually that can
become a reality
whether you realize it or not you are
prophesying your future and this is
great when we’re saying things like I’m
blessed I’m strong I will accomplish my
dreams I’m coming out of debt that’s not
just being positive you are prophesying
victory prophesying success prophesy new
levels your life will move in the
direction of your words but too many
people go around prophesy on just the
opposite I never get any good breaks
I’ll never get back in shape business is
slow
I’ll probably get laid off flu season is
here I always get it they don’t realize
their prophesy and defeat it’s just like
they’re calling in bad breaks mediocrity
lack the scripture says we will eat the
fruit of our words you are planting
seeds when you talk at some point you’re
going to eat that fruit my challenge is
make sure you’re planning the right kind
of seeds if you want apples you have to
sow apple seeds if you want oranges you
can’t plant cactus seeds or with an ivy
seeds mushroom seeds you’re going to
reap fruit from the exact seeds that
you’ve been sowing in other words you
can’t talk negative and expect to live a
positive life
you can’t talk defeat and expect to have
victory you can’t talk lack not enough
can’t afford it never get ahead and
expect to have abundance if you have a
poor mouth you’re going to have a poor
life if you don’t like what you’re
seeing start sowing some different seeds
quit relying on people what they do or
don’t do doesn’t determine your worth
what they give you or don’t give you
cannot stop your purpose God breathed
his life into you he has crowned you
with his favor quit waiting for people
to approve you and start approving
yourself
people may not encourage you you can
encourage yourself people may not make
you feel special you can make yourself
feel special I’m a child of the Most
High God I know I’m crowned with favor
I’m one of a kind I’m a masterpiece
you’ll have better relationships if
you’ll start validating yourself you’re
always depending on somebody else you’ll
become needy a burden waiting for other
people to keep you fixed well Joel my
parents didn’t raise me right I didn’t
have a good childhood my spouse never
compliments me my boss didn’t give me
the credit that I deserve I say this
respectfully if you didn’t get it you
didn’t need it
they can’t stop your destiny what they
say or do cannot override God’s plan for
your life
shake off the negativity that person
that walked away did you wrong made
hurtful comments shake off the
disrespect don’t believe the lies that
you’re not talented enough attractive
enough good enough they don’t determine
your value
they can’t lessen yourself worth the
only power people have over you is the
power that you give them we may not

if you go to lunch with people that talk
bad about the boss make fun of a
co-worker put down a friend they’re
feeding you gossip feeding you jealousy

whatever you feed is going to grow you
may not like what they’re feeding you
you’re a nice person but if you continue
to hang around them before long you’ll
be gossiping you’ll be critical you’ll
be disrespectful why because you kept
feeding the wrong things if you’re
always feeding negative thoughts
thinking I’ll never get well I’ll never
meet the right person you’re feeding
doubt feeding mediocrity feeding fear a
man told me how he spent years of his
life on drugs and alcohol
it had ruined his marriage he wasn’t
there for his children now he was so
down on himself so discouraged what was
he doing feeding the guilt feeding the
regret feeding the blame if you feed
guilt it’s going to get bigger if you
feed fear it’s going to become larger
what if you spent that same energy
feeding your fame feeding your hopes
feeding your dreams what are you
allowing in your spirit the people
you’re spending time with the thoughts
you’re dwelling on all day is that
inspiring you building your faith
pushing you towards your dreams or is it
junk food feeding you guilt mediocrity
negativity causing you to compromise a
friend of mine was diagnosed with a
serious illness the doctor put him on a
very strict diet he could leave any
sugar any flour any meat it was only raw
vegetables nuts grains very limited I
asked him if he was going to do it he
said what do you mean am I going to do
it I don’t have a choice my life depends
on it today I’m putting you on a new
diet not physically but for your inner
man no more junk food no more dwelling
on thoughts of worry fear I don’t have
what it takes no more hanging around
people that are feeding you negativity
causing you to compromise no more guilt
condemnation I’m all washed up your
prescription is for faith food feed your
hopes feed your dreams feed your
confidence feed your destiny in 2002 we
received word that the Houston Rockets
basketball team was moving out of this
building and the city was thinking about
selling it we needed a larger auditorium
when I heard that something came alive
on the inside I knew it was supposed to
be ours and word got out in the city
that we were interested in it there was
all kinds of debate as to what should
happen to this building a friend of mine
was at a business luncheon sitting with
some high-powered executives
one of these executives a very
influential man found out that my friend
attends Lakewood he started talking
about the compact Center and about how
against us he was about what a terrible
thing this would be for the city now no
church should ever have this building on
and on some other people at the table
joined in kind of laughing making fun
talked about how Lakewood didn’t have a
chance in the world to get it finally
this executive looked at my friend and
said very sarcastically it will be a
cold day in hell before Lakewood ever
gets that building my friend called me
afterward and told me about the
conversation said thanks a lot for the
good news
appreciate that encouragement but the
truth is that conversation was ordained
by the Creator he was one of those
Goliath God had strategically placed in
our path when I heard about how against
us he was I was already determined but
something rose up in me I had a holy
determination I had a new fire a new
resolve every time things got tough look
like it wasn’t going to work out I would
be tempted to get discouraged I could
hear that phrase a cold day in hell I’d
get my passion right back wouldn’t take
me five seconds sometimes God will put
an enemy in your life to keep you
stirred up he’ll allow critics doubters
discouraged errs even some haters so
when you feel tired and think you want
to give up you’ll keep pressing forward
shaking it off now because you feel like
it but because you don’t want to give
your enemies the joy of seeing you
defeated not out of sight not out of
pride it’s a holy determination God uses
the negative to keep us stirred up and
that business leader that was so against
us he doesn’t realize it but God used
him more than he used my friends he was
one of the most instrumental people in
us getting this building and a funny
thing if he wasn’t for us
was against us God used our enemies to
bless us if I ever see that man I need
to buy him dinner
McDonald’s probably some of my enemies I
feel like I need to write them a check
if they hadn’t have been against me I
wouldn’t have prayed so hard they had
the made fun I would have given up
sooner if it hadn’t have told me I
couldn’t do it didn’t have what it takes
might have been complacent settled where
I was it was their opposition that
pushed me forward many times God will
use your enemies to catapult you to
success more than your friends David
said God prepares a table before me in
the presence of my enemies notice when
God brings you through the opposition
he’s not going to do it in private he’s
going to do it we’re all of those
enemies can see it this building is
located on the second busiest freeway in
the nation you can’t drive in this city
very long without seeing what God has
done in that man that was against us I
can only imagine every time he passes by
something whispers in his ear it must be
a cold day in hell because there they
