Deployable Arm Shield “Percy Jackson Wrist Watch Shield”

every one so I need your help with
something
I’m entering a contest to win a 3d
printer it’s called the Boca bearings
innovation contest
I built this deployable arm shield using
plywood and the x-carve to cut out these
pieces so that was a really key portion
of this build
there’s eight of these shards and I
wanted to do something with like a motor
but is it really worth having a battery
and all these mechanics for you to be
able to turn this plus I eventually
would like to sort of hone my skill in
metalworking and create this out of
Steel or maybe aluminum something along
the lines of that so that I can have a
real powerful shield this is the
prototype obviously for the way it works
you have these two pulleys one deploys
it and the other one closes it up so you
would kind of face your enemy and and
then whenever you’re done and it’s a lot
easier if you do it while it’s like in
the air so I’ll show you guys real quick
how this works you can get a better idea
and give you a size comparison while I’m
using it I’ve always been a fan of
gadgetry hence the name Tariq gadget
guru I’ve been inspired by a variety of
superheroes super geniuses and secret
agents to try my own hand at building
something that you would only see on the
big screen
the deployables arm shield serves to
defend against attacks that a
traditional shield would while still
being stealthy compact and portable for
the user as part of the contest rules
I want to disclose where the bearing is
being used it’s right here on the back
it’s used to hold the pulley system in
place and then also anchor these plates
so that whenever you pull the string
you have the rotation and deploying of
the shield I’ve been working on this
project for over two months most
challenging aspect was figuring out how
to cut the material to such a unique
style and shape and how to fasten
everything together with basically
whatever I could find at the hardware
store I had to improvise on this
prototype but I’m happy with the results
my goal is to build a stealthy shield
that can easily deploy and defend
against harm I wanted to bring something
to life that I’d only seen in movies and
show people that anything is possible
sometimes simplicity is the key this
shield can be taken into small areas
where traditional shields may be too
cumbersome it can also fit into a
backpack and can be transformed to have
a stealthy and sleek profile personally
I enjoy solving the problem of why
hasn’t this been invented yet I haven’t
seen anyone else build something like
this and I enjoy the challenge and doing
so to my knowledge this idea is unique
because I brought an invention to life
that has only existed in science fiction
it uses minimal materials and service
function to quickly deploy and provide
protection I want people to know that I
worked completely alone on this project
I wanted to give up many times because I
didn’t think I had the knowledge to have
a functional prototype even though it
has a long way to go never to let a
challenge standing your way to fulfill
your goals I will use the $5,000 prize
the further research on this project and
others to buy stronger material to
protect against more powerful attacks I
may work with the hack Smith James
Hobson to add to his exoskeleton as last
year’s winner so just keep in mind that
this is just a prototype and you know
you lots of improvements especially with
the material obviously this is just
plywood the way it works is the string
here
comes out closes and then the other one
now there’s still some kinks and little
things I can do to improve it so leave a
comment below and if you you’re like an
engineer and you want to reach out maybe
help me design this you know I’m always
looking to collaborate with people it’s
just so fun to do this so pretty neat
took me some time to figure out how to
do this a lot of frustration so any
support you can add and provide I really
do appreciate and looking forward to
doing some more builds let me know what
you guys think in the comments below
also like post a comment setting telling
me what you think I should do maybe next
and like I said if you want to reach out
if you have any skills and you think you
could add to help me with things I’m
always looking to work with people
trying to create it up you know I’m a
closer relationship with my subscribers
and fans kind of create a sense of
community I think that’s important
alright guys well thanks for watching
take care
you
