Osho: I wonder if this is love?
Excerpts from an interview by Mike Wolfe KBND Radio, Bend, Oregon
My name is Mike Wolfe;
a little background on me:
I’m in the broadcasting world,
Washington DC, Denver, Colorado –
so I’ve traveled a bit,
am tired of big cities,
and came to central Oregon.
What I see is, simply put,
you say some things have,
which does not accept a lot of people at this time,
where you might not care.
Why do you not care?
Why should I give something there?
But why is not anything to give? … and we can
thus keep playing endlessly monopoly.
No.
You say you’re interested in the subject.
It is only the individual that is here?
No, the individual is everywhere,
whether he is here or not,
because only the individual exists. Companies are only names,
groups are only names.
In reality only the individual exists.
And I do my best,
in my sitting room.
Therefore, you see –
in all the newspapers, on the radio,
on the television —
a man who is not from this little valley.
And from here I will continue to insist on the globe.
What good is it to travel?
Well, let me ask you this:
You’re not out of this valley, but
it is not true that a few weeks ago, three nights in Bend
have spent at the River House Motel?
No.
Then does someone highest
compliment, because there is a double of you.
Hmm!
I wonder if it’s possible
that what you say –
and some seriously to come back –
to project onto those who understand nothing.
Firstly, it is not serious part:
Try to make a bigger joke than I do.
I was not
in the hotel, but I can go there.
Well, probably you could buy it if they wish.
In fact, I …
and I have everything any hotel in America than could have.
You should see my bathroom again,
it is perhaps the finest in the world.
Your bathroom?
My bathroom.
Is that an invitation?
Yes.
I’ve never been invited to a bathroom.
It has me earlier that I belong in the bathroom though,
but never invited to.
I am a rare and unique person in many ways:
I invite you in my bathroom!
That is unique.
But what happens then?
You do not go anywhere.
Outfitted with jacuzzi,
enjoy it in the shower,
enjoy
Hot shower,
Enjoy the icy shower.
And make sure you come out … I understand!
I need to know this for my own moral self-confidence:
Have you ever previously invited a member of the press in your bathroom?
No…
Thank you. I think that is important.
… because I have a husband never liked
as I may.
I wonder whether this is love?
Is everything alright!
In the bathroom are invited ….
Well, I’m sure the listeners of this program will think
You and I are going to start a nightclub song.
What are the possibilities – as you said a moment ago about
bringing together Western philosophy, which is somewhat materialistic,
and Eastern philosophy, which traditionally is not materialistic
but more an inner –
how one might say – an inner recognition of themselves?
Your now has done a great job in many ways –
it is not a natural diamond watch
Eastern philosophy –
yet the rest of your presentation somewhat oriental.
Is it possible to merge the two cultures?
I’m doing.
And therefore both sides are
of culture
mad at me.
Orientals are angry with me
because his thought that I am a materialist.
And they are right?
No.
You are not a materialist?
No, not as they see it.
And Westerners –
especially the materialist, the communist –
be mad at me
because I bring spirituality.
My approach is that it is both.
This existence is divided into matter and spirituality.
This existence is an organic moiety,
just as your soul and your body are an organic unity.
Your soul can not exist without the body,
and your body can not live without a soul.
I am the whole idea of that dichotomy destroying,
a separation between matter and spirit,
body and soul
materialism and spirituality.
I call myself Zorba the Buddha.
My restaurants, my
discos are all said to me: Zorba the Buddha.
Now Buddhists are angry.
The ambassador in America Sri Lanka wrote me a letter,
which he says:
“In my country, the people are angry.
Please use Buddha’s name with Zorba. “
I answered him: “We do not mean your Buddha;
Your Buddha’s name was Gautama Siddhartha.
Buddha is not just someone’s name,
it is a quality. It means: The Enlightened.
It can be used for anyone who is enlightened.
Makes you are not busy. “
It’s my whole effort that Zorba and Buddha to be bridged.
Zorba represents the materialistic life
with all its wealth –
why this diamond watch,
hence all my Rolls Royces.
I live the most luxurious life lived any man ever,
without worry.
There are people with a lot more money – I have no penny –
but they can not live such a luxurious life as I do,
without worry,
no bank account, no income tax …
and to have everything anyone could have!
What is your secret?
I really think that you’re in the wrong business.
I mean…
because what you just spread out on display,
you must like it looks, one of the world’s biggest crooks are.
Am I!
And there is a great need for men to admit that.
Certainly!
