at some point of our lives me you all of
us at some point you’re going to get to
a point where you’re going to make a
decision you’re going to say I’m just
going to be one of the guys or one of
the girls I’m gonna be one of the okay
performers I’m going to race everyone
standards starting with my own by the
way most people have no standards of
performance or whatever they’re doing a
lot of people have low standards very
few people of high standards I remember
vividly I grew up in a household with a
father who had high standards this guy
when we were living in Iran a lot of
people would talk behind my dad’s back
with other families and all this other
stuff but what’s crazy is when I was a
kid five years old and I’m sitting
everybody saying this stuff when it came
down to who they trusted with a million
dollars or half a million dollars
everybody would call my death same
people that talked behind his back would
give him the half a million dollars or a
million dollars because they trusted him
because he had high standards everybody
trusted this guy being my dad so I’m
building a business and I open up an
office in Granada Hills and these couple
guys named Mike decides to come with me
one of the guys named Mike who drove a
Volkswagen Beetle woody is it a Beatles
I would you call it
bug he was probably the laziest guy I
had met that had in an office as a
broker okay and this guy you know he
would always talk a big game and over a
three-year period would keep gaining
weight weight weight and he was all time
working so hard you have no any how many
appointments I’m running and I would
tell him raise your standards raise your
standards raise your standards one time
he didn’t pay rent to me for nine months
straight nine months straight he’s not
paying rent I said raise your standard
raise your standards raise your
standards it’s two o’clock in the
morning
this one time he’s in the office with me
he’s in tears crying and he says Pat one
day I’m gonna tell the world about how
you changed my life because people have
no idea how much you’ve been packed me
as a leader no problem
every six months I raise my own
standards higher and higher and higher
and higher and higher the first time I
decide to raise my sentence was very
awkward because I started seeing some
people were uncomfortable being around
me I started seeing some people didn’t
want to be around me
because I push their buttons all the
time but in this scenario fast forward
eight years later I get a text yesterday
from one of my old agents that says I
ran into Mike at Rocky’s place and man
he had a lot of bad things to say about
you watch what happens here
when you raise your standards the
audience gets very small your
relationships get very small they don’t
get bigger but I’m gonna tell you what
happens here the people that get into
this relationship are also people with
higher standards the low standards and
the ones with no standards can’t stand
people with high standards but
fortunately the world is ran with people
with high standards and no matter how
much the low standard or no standard
people say about you the proof is always in the pudding baby
