Secret filming tips from Jamie’s Food Team | Jamie Oliver & Uncle Ben’s

word up foodtubers jamie oliver here
okay in our quest to find a new food
tube star with uncle ben’s we are going
to give you some tools and tricks and
some videos to support you in all of
your skills and the food team are going
to give you some great tips on how you
can kind of pace yourself and the kind
of things you need to choose that will
really work on TV I do everything with
the food team where there are mountains
or in tunnels in Timbuktu so check them
out and I’m sure they will be helping
you make the best videos ever and don’t
forget all the details below I want to
see your video hi I’m Charlie I’m from
Jamie’s food team and my first top tip
is shopping for your fruit and your
vegetables so when you’re in the
supermarket
it’s lots and lots of things going on
and it’s quite daunting but it’s always
worth taking that extra time to find
your lovely ingredients for example if
you using lemons and your zesting it’s
nice to get unwaxed lemons you can get
leafy lemons from your grocers that
always add that extra bit of color and
you’ve got lovely onions and herbs and
have beautiful salad leaves you’ll find
that it changes from season to season so
if you can’t find the ingredient that
you like at your local supermarket then
it’s always worth the friending or your
local green grocer and just to kind of
keep up-to-date with what’s in season
and when it comes to quantities it’s
always better to buy slightly over what
you actually need depending on your
budget but at the end of the day it’s
importantly you have more than what you
need in case you need something goes
wrong or you’re you’re doing a pack shot
or a thumbnail short at the end that you
need to redo what you’ve done
my next top tip is all about keeping
your hero ingredients that you just
found at supermarket fresh so big thing
herbs
these tend to wilt as soon as they’re
bought it’s a fact kitchen towel wet it
with a bit of cold water this keeps them
fresh it’s you just roll them up and you
store them in the fridge they’ll will
last a good day or so though this baby
Jenna for example it’s got kind of a
rough button where it’s just been cut
off and then it’s been sitting around
for quite a while
so just trim a you know automatic you
got really nice fresh looking
maybe gem lettuce herbs and pots you
know that they’ll always stay fresh just
bought was 1 pound 50 or whatever it is
if you put it in a terra cotta pot or in
a job or anything that comes to hand it
looks really really nice when I’m on a
shoot with Jamie this is what I like to
think about so first of all I start with
his empty space he has obviously a board
and a knife
salt and pepper utensil jar pots and
pans if he needs in terms of the food if
it’s meat for example put it on a baking
parchment or a plate rather than in its
packet it just looks a lot lot nicer so
when it comes to putting your hero
ingredients in set there are lots of
different angles here but always go with
the prettiest facing out towards the
camera we could go with that one it’s
not so nice
again you not really seeing much there
this angle is by far the prettiest you
can see the selection that’s going on on
this plate likewise when it comes to
your final dish you want to make sure
that the angle that the camera is seeing
is the prettiest because that is what
the viewers will be doing
so my next top tip is all about colors
not just with your finished article on
your plate but with what your your
presenting as well on set for example
this lovely bowl
it’s the prop the color itself is really
really nice and it kind of stings out it
out the camera lemons
chilies limes they all work really
really well together they’re all quite
contrasting but complementary colors the
same as if you were plating up cooking a
curry or a stew you can’t really tell
the difference you can’t see you know
your chunk of meat to your tomato it all
looks very very similar dollop of yogurt
would work really really well and some
lovely leaves have you were but if it
was a curry for example coriander
scattered over the top and maybe some
chopped chili try with and try without
and you’ll see the difference so my last
tip it’s all about height and texture
and movement on a plate for example say
these pairs were final our final dish
not just it’s not just about piling or
food up it’s also about the plates and
the props that you use it’s quite a big
plate so I’ve always to place these on
here just look a bit kind of lost and a
bit a bit sad however if I was to get
slightly smaller plate with as you can
see it’s got a slight dip in it at a
nice edge
a nice kind of pattern will pile them up
it just adds something little bit
different just height it draws it draws
the plate of food up to your eye and I
think that’s really really important
remember all this bus is for one thing
to make people want to try your food if
you want to enter your video for the
competition all the details are right
here
