you know often you get some food served
to you and you just think how the hell
am I going to shoot that but you have to
somehow do it possibly the worst things
are curries curries are always shockers
to shoot and I’ve done a couple of curry
books and you know you have to try and
make them look bright and it’s hard you
know it is a lot of often a lot of oil
very reflective very glisteny very shiny
but also often a lot of very brown food
this is quite a challenging dish it’s a
pie
big brown pie and the challenge with
this is it’s quite a dry pie it’s all
very similar in color but also with a
pie you’ve got to get into the cakes as
well you’ve got to get into the insider
you need to see all the details of
what’s going into that pie because
otherwise it’s just a you know it’s just
a topping you know or a sliding topping
or a sight you need to see what’s in
there all the details so it’s a slight
challenge with your daylight that you
you know you’ve really got to get the
light into that crack of the pie that
you’ve made so rather them reflecting
from this side as I was doing I’m
reflecting directly as you can see
directly into the pie you can see how it
changes even with that gentle light
changes so much by just little movements
I mean food styles are very good at
playing with herbes and garnishes
dressings things like that
give interest you know a piece of
lettuce might look rather dull or on its
own little bit slightly backlit with
some beautiful dressing maybe some oil
and vinegar maybe some pomegranate juice
or something that and that’s where food
starts are very clever and they learn
all these little tricks
if you won’t see more of my food
