Chopping a carrot – Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills


right next kind of chopping is using a
big knife and this is how you would chop
something like a carrot up so I’m going
to take the end off the carrot pull them
away and what I want to do is cut it
into small chunks so I’ll cut it first
length ways like that length ways again
and now I want to cut it across into
small chunks so what I could do is this
you know and I’ll get there in the end
but the fastest slickest way of doing it
is to do something called role chopping
now for this is this kind of movement
now notice that the end of the knife
doesn’t actually leave the board it’s
always in contact with the board and
this knife is the one that moves down
now it’s not a guillotine like this it’s
not just a straight up-and-down there’s
a bit of movement so as you push the
knife down you push it forward like that
so these fingers are tucked in as before
knife on the tip of the knife on the
board down and forward down and forward
like that the more you practice that the
faster you’ll get
