Irish Dance Movements

hey and welcome to watchmojo.com today
we’re gonna be learning some movements
in Irish dancing first of all we’re
gonna learn how to put our shoes on when
you actually buy your first pair of soft
shoe it doesn’t matter which foot you
put it on eventually they’ll curb
themselves so you’ll know which foot
goes where so you want it really tight
you’re gonna go with each lace
unlike ballet you’re not gonna go up
we’re gonna follow the cross and go
underneath our foot and then back over
the reason we go underneath our foot is
to improve our arches so that we’re
pointing our toes it’s actually pulling
our shoe in so we’ll have nice points
when we’re dancing so now we’re gonna
look over a couple of movements that are
common in Irish dancing in the soft shoe
for the most part you’re gonna see a lot
of pointing if the toes you can never
see in between the legs so when you’re
pointing make sure that your back leg is
for the most part covered same thing
with your heel if your toe is pointing
up to the ceiling
there’s still no back leg so when you’re
standing you want your foot turned out
and your front foot with a nice arch
your arms are right by your side and not
like this you’re keeping them in your
body is straight and you’re extending
right from your hips so the next move
we’re gonna go over is a lift your right
foot is in front you’re gonna lift it up
and bring your other one in front of it
so another movement is the skip you go
hop one two three and your left foot is
in back and you’re gonna bring this in
front so you’re gonna hop up to your bum
hop left two three it sounds complicated
but it’s really just like walking with a
hop and a jump in between
now having completed all of your
soft-shoe dances and reached a certain
level your teacher will usually bring
you into hard shoes for the trouble
you’re only using your tip trebles are
in every dance so your front tip is
gonna hit the ground twice like so and
that’s really how you start with the
treble next you would do it with your
other foot after lots of practice you
can actually start doing real trebles
which are more like this this is a click
these are called toe arcs these would be
more advanced toe walks and this is
Kevin he will be learning a basic Irish
dancing step today so our shoulders are
back and then our arms are going to be
placed right by our sides and then our
feet are gonna form a V you’re gonna put
your right foot in front and point your
toe to the ground exactly top 2 3 4 5 6
7 good so to complete that step you
would also perform it with your left
foot in front
