I’m here today to talk about how my
passion for art became my therapy so
what is art therapy for those of you who
don’t know here’s an example
I’m the zebra so I think art therapy’s
any way that you can convey your
emotions through your artwork or any
creativity any medium any way that you
can find to be creative and put your
emotions into it and I draw mostly
everyday it’s a really good way for me
to relieve my stress from day to day and
it’s a really healthy way to take risks
and if you use creativity to get rid of
your stress it’s not a logical thing
it’s more of an emotional thing so it
goes right from your brain into your
hands onto the paper and if I do this
every day I don’t have a lot of buildup
and I can usually be relaxed the next
morning and sometimes life gives you
more than just the typical daily
stressors sometimes life can actually
inflict pain on you and about a year and
a half ago this community lost five
amazing people and it left their family
friends and did the greater community
and a well of pain and after that event
I tried many different forms of therapy
but none really worked as well as
creating and drawing for me so I didn’t
go down the step-by-step process of
getting better I just found myself in in
my art in my emotions and I got lost in
it and the first day we got back to
school I went up to the art room I asked
my teachers to help me and I wanted to
draw portraits for the families to help
them through this time and I grabbed my
pencil I grabbed my paper i sat down and
I started drawing and what I found and
that I did not realize would happen is
that those drawings and drawing those
faces of my friends actually helped me
just as much as I thought it would help
them and each drawing held the weight of
so after that I could deal with my
emotions I was more intact with my
emotions and I didn’t you just made me
come to reality with what happened and
if you find yourself in the same
situation as me art is a really good way
to forget logic and just think about
your emotions and come to terms with
your reality thank you [Applause]
