this workout sees you stretch and
strengthen at the same time hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be
learning more about eccentric s– what
is eccentric
exactly well the eccentric s– is really
a fitness class but it’s a fitness class
based on stretching so and a lot of
people think it’s stretching it can’t be
fitness because it with Fitness you want
to tone your body you can people think
that they can’t do that with stretching
but the Centrex is a fitness class
that’s based on strength but what we do
is we stretch within that strength so
you’re kind of pulling your muscles
apart and then strengthening them in a
dynamic motion so you’re able to get
every muscle from head to toe and really
kind of stimulate all the muscles so you
really get this beautiful shape people
notice when they start doing these
Centrex their waist comes in very
quickly because you rarely get your arms
above your head and in this class we’re
pulling up all the time so it’s really
really lengthening the sides you’re
getting your abs thinned out too and
then all the work we do for the legs
which is really fun for especially for
girls because there’s these little side
things that develop so we have some
really amazing techniques and little
exercises we do for that particular part
of your body in terms of flexibility and
range of motion how does eccentric so
one of the ways that eccentrics became
known was because of the flexibility
side of it flexibility has a very bad
rap especially athletes they need to
stretch and they’re always told you need
to stretch but passive stretching
doesn’t do anything for them and so many
studies have shown that but what we do
is a very different kind of stretch
because there’s the strength element in
it but it’s like anything you have to
put the time into it a little like 10
minute stretch before a workout or
something is not doing anything it’s
just warming you up and the same thing
at the end it’s cooling you down but
this is a stretch program so you have to
devote 30 45 minutes to an hour twice a
week to get those results but you do get
them can you tell us more about its role
in injury prevention and injury
treatment a lot of people use stretching
or think of stretching as injury program
or also to rehabilitate an injury the
whole class from start to beginning it’s
a stretch program even though there’s
strength in it and you can use the class
to either loosen up your muscles and
bring blood flow in which is really the
healing part or you can use it to
actually change the shape of your
muscles so at the beginning of a class
I’ll always say if you’re here because
you have an injury or you’re feeling
tight somewhere today particularly tight
do everything looser because that really
brings the blood flowing and we do
special techniques within it like pmf
which means you contract the muscles
then you relax and then you release and
that brings the blood it comes in and
then it flushes through what types of
athletes and sports can benefit most
from this type of workout all sports can
benefit from the Centrex and we see
every every type of athlete from just
local runners we work the feet a lot and
a lot of people don’t get those at the
feet work in any other program so we
work their feet we work every part of
the body and the body is all connected
so you can’t really it’s not like going
to a physiotherapist or something where
they’re going to target the area that’s
injured we do the whole body so it’s a
rebalancing program we’ve worked with
divers and skaters and speed skaters and
hockey players weight lifters basketball
players golf of course you know golfers
love this because there’s so much
movement on the spine and they all kind
of want to compete with each other and
getting better now you’ve mentioned a
few but what specific body parts can be
targeted with this workout best part
arms right under your arms and we don’t
use any weights or any apparatus so
everything is just your own body using
your own body as a as a lever as a
weight first class you see a change in
your posture
after three classes you’re just kind of
naturally sitting up straighter I would
say waist waist and just above the jeans
kind of that area so you’re stretching
it and then strengthening it so that
kind of pulls it all in kind of like a
girdle so you see a lot change to this
area and then of course the thighs which
everybody wants takes a little longer
it’s just natural it’s a hard area to
target how similar or different is it to
other workouts like yoga and Pilates it
was created by a former national ballet
dancer and she was also in the aerobics
movement so there’s that pattern of a
class where you
different songs for different exercises
but at the same time you’re doing more
of opening out words in your whole class
which is more what you think about when
you think yoga Pilates that you’re
trying to lean out a bit more so that
element is similar but we’re full body
and we’re so dynamic and you’re always
in motion every single muscle which is
completely different than either of them
would you say there are any dangers
associated with the Centrex it’s a
program that was originally created for
back pain sufferers it developed into
something that changed the shape of the
body because people were noticing
changes but it was really originally a
therapeutic program so that element of
it makes it very very safe 12 years no
injuries knock on wood thank you very
much thank you
