Interview Shawn Clown Crahan of Slipknot

there’s definitely more than meets the
eye to Shawn Crahan of Slipknot
hi my name is Stephanie and welcome to
watchmojo.com today we’re getting up
close and personal with this clown mask
percussionists
you’re a founding member of Slipknot but
throughout the years you guys have gone
through a lot of lineup changes or even
you know some of you’ve had side
projects how do you guys stay together
throughout all this Picasso sculpted
stuff he painted he he drew did all
kinds of stuff that’s what we do give
everything we can get out for ourselves
and in return that helps us stay
together as the not you know so I mean
tensions rise but nothing the punch to
the nose can’t solve you know speaking
of side projects I know that you’ve had
a couple of your own there was one
called to my surprise and there was
dirty little rabbits what artistic role
do these side projects fulfill for you
it’s taking ten years to kind of realize
my role my position in Slipknot you know
we have a saying that the pieces are
only as good as the whole and that’s
pretty much what Slipknot is is you know
you just need to know your slot but the
other stuff you know like dirty little
rabbits it’s truly selfish
it’s just the kind of music that I want
to make him that I don’t want to share
the vision with other people
Slipknot is an anomaly and a monster
onto itself so you know you kind of have
to learn how to feed it
well I guess this is sort of related to
a quote that you said in an interview
with MTV you said that Slipknot was a
way of life it’s a philosophy right so
basically it encompasses all your time
is that what you are trying to get it
it’s everything it’s it’s my life I wake
up every day trying to figure what the
hell I’m doing and I’ll have no answer
Here I am the clown in Slipknot and I
just I don’t get it you know I don’t
understand it but anymore I don’t really
fight it too much it’s Who I am it’s
what I am it’s what I’ve become
it’s what I’m doing for now you know it
just it’s my life I don’t at this point
I don’t really know anything else so I
want to talk to you a bit about
Slipknot’s
image the mask is very important so I
wanted to know what was the original
inspiration behind this I came up with
the mask but it’s it’s real simple and
definitely someone who feels that should
be listened to and I’m definitely
someone who feels he has something to
say and I’m also definitely someone who
just doesn’t need to be looked upon as
for I guess lack of better concept as an
idol
I don’t care what you think I look like
and I don’t want to put any emphasis on
that you know I’m shy a very modest
personal person you know I’ve lived in
my own imagination my whole entire life
so when the band started you know really
going you know I was very uncomfortable
with having to find some social scene
and what I might have to be in some sort
of limelight clown mask has always been
with me and it just helped me realize
what I am and it helps me portray what I
am without that embarrassing feeling in
my stomach
Paul is relying on what does my hair
look like this year did I grow my beard
out or have I gained weight you know it
doesn’t matter I’m just too calm
you
