he is one of the most influential
skateboarders of all time and now he’s
using that influence to help others hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today our host
Veronica got the chance to speak with
Tony Alva about his charitable efforts
and his proudest moment now you’re
recognized is one of the most
influential skateboarders out there but
in your opinion what’s your best
accomplishment you know skateboarding
has a lot to do with some of the prouder
moments i would think my pride is really
attached to a lot of things nowadays
that don’t really have to do so much
with material things i think that my
proudest moment is any moment to where i
can share some of my experience with the
kids whether they’re aspiring
professional skateboarders are just kids
that i meet you know from being on the
road doing stuff for vans I’ve been an
ambassador for skateboarding for quite a
few years instead of being a competitive
skateboarder a lot of kids kind of get
too serious about skateboarding too soon
the message that i carry really is just
that it’s really got to be just about
keeping it simple and having fun today
you’re helping underprivileged kids
through skateboarding how does that work
exactly just by doing something for fair
and for free you know it helps you and
them by just having some sort of mission
that revolves around compassion and just
benevolence believe me I’m not a saint
but you know I just strive to be
connected to something that’s bigger
than myself and channel through you know
positive energy to the kids a lot of
times you know they look at me as like a
hero and like a tough guy and this and
that which in a way I am on the outside
when I was younger I kind of had some
issues with that stuff so you know as
I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to expose
and become transparent and expose more
of them I would say the softer side of
my personality you know and still be a
pretty hardcore skateboarder you know
there’s a fine line between the two now
I read that you
advise people to share a little bit of
them sounds like you’ve done but if they
don’t have fame how can we do it I think
a lot of people have issues you know
including myself and we can overcome
those you know by having a solution in
our life in the solution does not always
come from being rich and famous I think
the true success is measured in your
happiness in like what you have in your
life such as me being a professional
skateboarder you know I really have a
sense of success because of the fact
that I enjoy what I’m doing and the
ability to stay in the moment and be
happy in that moment and carry that
through on a daily basis because you
know it’s just one day at a time you
know yesterday is gone tomorrow’s not
guaranteed it’s just about right now so
we’re looking pretty happy right now
that was good thank you so much is great
having you well that’s the way it is you
know so that’s my philosophy at least so
thank you very much for letting me share
that with y’all
