You Me at Six talks Lady Gaga, Jessie J Covers

these British pop punkers have gained
fame for their infectious music and
their interpretations of other people
students hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com we got the
chance to check out warped tour for we
spoke with you me at six about their
origins and their favorite songs to
cover
whatcha got what he tells how you meet
six first got together we first got
together maybe five or six years ago an
hour I remember like time is flying but
we were just kids like hanging out
playing music together we were all best
friends and we start a band just to kind
of play some cover songs and just have a
laugh we never expected it to come
anyway closer where this is now
speaking of cover songs I’m gonna skip
right as to my cover song question you
guys like you said do a lot of covers
well what has been your favorite cover
that you’ve done probably we did a cover
of poker face by lady gaga a few years
ago man no she can read a map we kind of
rocked it off and that little guitar
solo in it and staffing is kind of fun
yeah yeah that was fun
ok
what’s the most recent one you’re doing
the last one we did was a Jessie J some
cool dominate we had to do that again
for radio and we kind of rocked it up
and a lot of fun with it the lyrics kind
of didn’t work because churches and
Jessie J sexy good as room Oh me yet to
sing I’m sexion free which is my first
line I’m sexy and free and we were just
like letters raining on me
now how do you choose coverage well
normally it’s for radio 1 and it kinda
has to be in their top 40 at the time
and that’s why we do it live we have to
choose those covers but we got like the
pic of like for your tunes and we just
choose our favorite ones are out the
minute the no one else has done really
it’s either that all we do we pick a
song that’s kind of completely different
to our band so we can have some fun
rearranging it and making it sound
different you know say we like we like
to challenge
aside from who you’ve listened to
because I’m sure lady gaga was a huge
influence on you yeah who did you guys
grow up listening to I grew up this
thing to love pop punk music like new
found glory and blink when I to the
starting line yet kind of new phone
groans taught the mini they were awesome
and they kind of influenced me to play
bass I know chris loves one of my
favorites was going I was Incubus I was
least loving kiss about when science and
that came out bottled up ever since oh
still probably my favorite band at the
time I feel like I’m interviewing you I
felt sunglasses made like it look like
it’s really close look about to punch me
be an incubus problem for me it’s my fav
apt it is about some swanky sunglasses
going on versace Ravens oh my god it was
actually look we actually got them for
free I also pair them and these when the
fifty percent of saving sunglass hut
boom
what is the band’s songwriting process
like there’s not really a set way that
we’re I it’s just kind of just comes out
of us we could probably explain it
really the magical experience and it you
yeah I mean there’s there’s probably
like three way main ways to be right but
it’s nice to actually write as a band
because a lot of bands would work with
like co-writers or one person in the
band will write everything whereas us is
a big group effort and we will get our
say and it’s nice to listen to it out
and be like oh someone wrote that bid so
I’m read that bit it’s cool for us to do
that
do you guys write on the road we write
like little riffs we don’t write like
entire songs we say that for the studio
there’s little bits here and there’s no
yeah there’s always a guitar kicking
around on the bust and I probably should
write and play more than actually do but
easy yeah i’m just lazy too much
drinking and stuff that but yeah I mean
we we normally get together when we’re
IM like every week we’ll get together
and belies anyone got any new ideas and
stuff like that so bit more just have
the road for gigging and then I’m pariah
