World Press Photo Exhibit

the world press photo is an exhibition
of prize-winning images that travel all
around the world to 45 different
countries it’s been visited by over 2
million people each year and today I get
to be here welcome to watchmojo.com my
name is Andrea tram and i’ll be speaking
to the curator of the event jerome
whistle could you tell us a little bit
more about the world press photo
exhibition tonight well the exhibition
is the result of the world press photo
contest which is held every year and
it’s the biggest international
competition for press photographers the
jury’s comes every year to Amsterdam in
February and this year they looked at
seventy nine thousand pictures from all
over the world we had nearly four and a
half thousand photographers entering the
competition and all the wedding pictures
are to be seen here in his exhibition
tonight and there are professional
photographers that enter these contests
it’s an exhibition and a contest for a
professional press photographers our
mission is to promote professional
breasts photography and this is the way
we do it and why press photography it’s
just because we think that you know
emits all television radio internet
photo journalism is still very important
wherever we go with the exhibition I see
that people very much very easily relate
to this exhibition what I find amazing
is that the issues displayed here are
pretty heavy but they’re beautiful so
how does that work for you why it’s that
is press photography that’s photography
in general it combines like a big
aesthetic elements with a with in this
case a highly relevant sort of
journalism and I think this that’s the
power of fresh photography and also the
reason why people can relate to it as as
as they can could you tell us a little
bit of the history it was finally 55 by
three dutch journalists and
and they found that there was not enough
attention for photojournalism they
wanted to compare their work and that of
other Dutch photographers with the
international competition it slowly grew
out to be the biggest international
competition for best photography and I
think it’s the fact that it’s still
growing now and 2007 proof that for
journalism is still very relevant today
