today we’re speaking with Sharon from
Within Temptation about their album the
unforgiving and the visual aspects that
go along with it of God
instead of other music what else has
come to kind of inspire and influence
your music in the past we were very much
inspired by movies and stuff like that
and for those five books fantasy books
sometimes this album we developed our
own comic and wants to a concert album
for the first time and not like a lot of
bands did before I was like finished
Pink Floyd who really made a concept
album from A to Z and telling the whole
story in the in the album as well and
for us it was more like making
soundtracks to the comic and making some
short movies to explain the main
characters of the storylines
what was the writing and recording
process like we already started writing
some songs before the story was finished
and it was developed while we were
writing but we didn’t make the lyrics we
obviously that life made dummy and
lyrics you know and replace them later
on being based on the comic s and at
certain part the storyline was developed
simultaneously with the songwriting so
we could really integrate more things
into it but in the end I think it just
turned out very well even the songs who
were written before I just fit it in
perfectly with the whole whole album

why did you guys find it important to
combine visual aspects with the musical
aspects of the zone
well we our band was always trying to
put something special on stage as well
just on the album you know like we want
to have a full concept and for us the
visual part is just as important as the
music itself and of course the music is
the basic of course but that’s where it
all starts we grew up with breathing
comes when we were kids and because this
album was really like inspired by the
80s another 80 80 ‘s bands that we liked
and we felt like maybe go live and throw
out of that road and also tape and you
know develop this comic which is
typically something communities
why don’t you tell us a bit more about
the concept of the storyline itself the
unforgiving album is about people who
are basically not bad but made bad
decisions they get a second chance in
life and to turn their destiny around
but they have to do that’s a little bit
the question mark and the nice thing
about story we think is like they have
to do something bad to get a good result
you know this like at the gray area what
is good and what is bad and who decides
what’s good and that’s a little bit the
main question behind the storyline and
and that’s of course for everybody
something different
obviously you’re often compared to other
female fronted bands no matter how
different you actually sound are you
kind of getting sick of these
comparisons it’s inevitable so you know
you can make and you can make a fuss
about it but you know you only gonna
have yourself with it I do think I
totally agree that strange because I
think if him the band him would have had
a girl singer they would have been
compared to us as well and reach them
and other bands as well but because of
the fact of their old girls we get to
get them you know it’s really a little
bit ridiculous but you know whatever
it’s a good attitude
