a look at the whistler and blackcomb
mountains the whistler resort is
comprised of two mountains whistler and
blackcomb together these mountains form
over 8000 acres or 30 3 square
kilometres of skiable terrain which is
the largest ski area in North America
originally called London mountain by
British surveyors today Whistler is one
of bc’s most visited peaks the mountain
was originally open to the public in
1966 shortly thereafter Whistler was
offered the 1976 Winter Olympics but
declined and ultimately co-hosted with
Vancouver in 2010 instead it was in the
late 1990s when the two mountains were
promoted as one large skiing venue while
the mountains are immensely popular for
skiing and snowboarding they are also
well liked in summer months for hiking
and mountain biking striking scenery is
the perfect backdrop for these open-air
activities
