Understanding Shakespeare Today

ma-kun get back Shakespeare writes about
universal and human themes such as love
death and jealousy hi I’m Veronica
watchmojo.com and today we’re taking a
look at the real Shakespeare should have
in our child’s lives today why is it
still important to incorporate
Shakespeare in the school curriculum
Shakespeare is a lot with human nature
and I mean regardless of if you’re alive
in his time or alive now human nature
doesn’t change right you know like
videos with seems like family themes
like ambition themes like what happens
when you get everything you want and
then still not enough on top of being
like great literature and historically
significant it’s also the themes are
still significant today the costumes are
nice I hated Shakespeare in high school
and what changed the way we do it and
that’s what changes we adapted to modern
English everything is completely modern
do you think you’re losing anything by
writing in modern-day language the
language becomes a barrier for kids you
know they see the language and they say
they get blocked it’s like this is too
hard for me to understand and if you
don’t read it off and you’re not going
to understand it right so if once you
can get rid of that bear we can actually
deal with the themes and as long as we
don’t dumb down the themes I think we’re
doing all right with him oh is it prison
in my prison how do you kids react to
your shows they absolutely hate it oh
they hate it I’m gonna do it but it one
person a table and we love making a
miserable oh sure you’ll edit all this
nonsense out anyway what was the
question what are the kids think the
kids absolutely love it we’ve been going
back to some schools for eight years or
eight year and the kids absolutely love
it if the first introduction to theatre
is boring for them they’re going to hate
it that’s what we always say you know
they’re going to hate theater in general
after that so we try and keep it fun and
exciting
your goal to have people go to the
original works of Shakespeare after your
shows if we’re selling the booth it’ll
just open them up a little more for the
other plays because especially someone
who sees us in grade seven eight you
know they’re going to get like four or
five more years of Shakespeare right so
if they can have just a bit more of an
open mind to when it comes around next
let’s enjoy that a little bit map what
do you have to say to parents who think
Shakespeare is too hard and outdated
Roman Julius but kids disobeying their
parents Hamlet’s about a guy who lost
his father you know Macbeth is about a
guy who wants to be more in life it’s
never gonna change that’s always going
to be how we are as human beings you
know you can still read the place today
and be like wow you know this guy this
guy 500 years ago gets it he gets
exactly what I’m going through
