i went from Minneapolis to San Francisco
and I stopped off in Bozeman Montana met
up with as many of the same people as I
could find on this route and took my old
dirt bike hi I’m Rebecca Braden and

about motorcycle culture and to find out
how america has evolved since robert / 6
journey how would you say that america
has changed since / 6 trip parts of
America have changed a great deal the
route that he took though was through
the road less traveled through little
communities along the way and many of
those little communities while some of
them have don’t exist anymore much of
what he describes is still there the
people that I met along the way still
have the exact same values people don’t
change that much it takes more than a
generation to shift an entire set of
values and people how would you say that
motorcycle travel is different from
other forms of travel I don’t go along
with the idea that if you don’t ride a
bike you’ll never understand you know
that’s just an easy way out of it the
thing about a motorcycle is that it
throws you into your environment it
turns you into a vulnerable traveler not
vulnerable in that you might crash and
have some horrible accident but
vulnerable in that every part of the
environment that you’re traveling
through you’re open to the road is just
beneath your feet right is right there
you can touch it with your foot thing is
to on a motorcycle you meet people who
you’d never think to meet along the way
they introduce themselves to you you’re
not an intimidating person that’s our
guy on a bike anymore I’ve heard that
motorcycle riding and escapism go hand
in hand would you say that that is true
when you’re in a car and you drive to
Hollywood what you get in Hollywood is
probably what you’re expecting to happen
and you’re shaping a lot of it because
you bring in a lot of your baggage your
crap in the trunk for example with you
when you’re on a motorcycle you’re not
you’re saying right this is me this is
I’m on my bike it’s just me and this
motorcycle I can touch the ground I can
feel the coolness in the heat I’m
getting away from where I was and I have
very little with me Here I am

respect you want to escape something
