very good balance of humor he does take
jabs at the game and make a lot of jokes
but his humor never feels forced or
smarmy that’s why my final rating for
this game is a training wheel out of
time
although he does give scores to his
games he often uses that score as a
vehicle for a joke so while one game
might get a 10 on 10 another will get a
bucket of tears out of 10
also nuptup I’ve been told that’s a

surprised with its promise of great
visuals the intriguing ability to hack
into personal data and City
infrastructure and a mysterious take on

to sit down and watch longer more

usually in the 5 to 10 minute range and

one of the biggest names in the game
Dark Souls earned a reputation as the
epitome of tough but fair and as a gamer
who values overcoming an epic challenge
I’m delighted that its sequel shows no
hint of easing off the talent for
creating brutal difficulty and tempting
exploration rather than rely on a
specific gimmick or style IGN’s reviews
are actually quite cut and dry often
serving as a counterpart to the written
review you can find on their website
that being said being such a big company
they use the privilege that comes with
their big name to great effect their
videos are slick well edited
professionally written and most notably
are always published in conjunction with
the release of the game sometimes on the
same day or a few days before the Last
of Us is a masterpiece a case study and
how games can immerse you tell a
fascinating story and make you really
care about its characters much like game
trailers pretty much all of the video
content made for IGN’s website ends up
on their YouTube channel as you can
imagine this means they feature a ton of
extra content outside of their reviews
including gameplay footage trailers and
new segments 18.5 million that’s not how
much money I make each year though I
sure wish it were eighteen point five

professionalism and just have a bit of
fun finishing off the first half of our

I’m just gonna go ahead and live my real
life instead to be perfectly honest it’s
very rare that you’ll find a game

want to play he specializes in torturing
himself with obscure games some old

of course being the pagemaster a movie
that attempts to trick kids into
thinking reading is fun
there are many savage books that attack
you which I gotta say really isn’t
making me want to read anything now when
he’s not ripping on the inane and the
obscure he’s got a number of other
videos on his channel as is the custom
it seems these include a large focus on
all things Elda especially in November
of every year and decent helping of top
10 countdown which I understand is a
popular format these days here it is the
number one suckiest enemy in video games
at least according to this loser number
5 jontron show following in the trend of
unconventional reviews of really bad
games we have the jontron show hosted by
the eccentric John drew Raffi this one
is my personal favorite Spiderman points
at your dick while you play you can’t
make that up
that’s really how they design this much
like peanut butter gamer John does not
create objective structured reviews of
the recent triple-a releases but instead
focuses on the often forgotten mistakes
of the video game industry let me give
you a taste in one picture I’m gonna
show you what zoo race is all about did
you get that jontron belongs to the
normal boots Network which also includes
peanut butter gamer now this will make a
lot of sense when you see their styles
because they’re actually quite similar
however jontron takes the random flash
cut stoner style you see in PVG and
really runs with it making this video is
a lot more surreal and kind of random
also sometimes when you wipe out a shark
comes up and is like hello there that is
the cutest goddamn shark I’ve ever seen
I love him and he’s mine now because of
this distinctive style and focus on the
old and the obscure jontron show is more
of a hybrid of review and a let’s play
channel one thing that can’t be denied
though is that his videos are super
watchable definitely because of his
awesome delivery and slick editing okay
I am not comfortable with this that
horse is way too eager to get in that
cannon what kind of state you got to be
I mean what do you what do you parents
got to do to you for you to turn out
like this to make something like this

Escapist although there’s a ton of great
shows on The Escapist channel there’s
one that stands head and shoulders above
the rest coming in at number four is Ben
Yahtzee crow shows zero punctuation a
zero punctuation video is
instantly recognizable by several
obvious trademarks there are very simple
animated clips that always feature a
yellow background in the end I put a
coat over my Hawaiian shirt and turned
at my collar to hide my neckbeard and
committed the most grievous PC Gamer sin
of all I went out and bought the ps4
version which at least didn’t crash even
if the frame weights kept dropping and
it still had more clipping issues than
an arthritic hairdresser
Yahtzee who narrates the videos is also
the second trademark that’s instantly
recognizable not only for his awesome
British accent but also for the titular
speed with which he delivers the
narration now I know what it is it’s an
endurance test you see how much of the
dialogue you can listen to before you
slice your own ears off with a paper
guillotine or perhaps just turn the
volume down use spares lastly the final
trademark of zero punctuation videos is
the brutal way in which Yahtzee
eviscerates triple-a releases while he
doesn’t hate everything he often focuses
on the negative or more absurd aspects
of the games he’s reviewing and the
results are nothing short of hilarious
and the sword fighting is flabby and
unresponsive counter prompted all very
well when the framerate isn’t dropping
like a Christmas number 1 through the
January chubs
jaws he’s become such a big name at
video game journalism that he’s even

standards at least his reviews are

him playing with his commentary overtop
and they run from anywhere between 15
minutes to somewhere under an hour
very few sections where you really get
to wander around and do anything indeed
there are no puzzles in the first
episode whatsoever so if you were
looking for that you’re gonna be
disappointed it’s a lot of talking and a
lot of cutscenes so why does his banner
describe him as the number one PC game
reviewer well his videos are very
consistent and professional for one
thing which is pretty important when it
comes to reviewers people have come to
know me style and taste quite well so
they can be very confident in his
recommendations tales from the
borderlands is a pretty good start to
this series as far as I’m concerned and
I do want to play the rest of it I
enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than
borderlands the pre-sequel I can tell
you that for a fact everyone we’ve seen
so far has some
sort of specific style or gimmick to
their videos totalbiscuit boils it down
to just the game and his opinion and it
works great
number two Angry Video Game Nerd by now
you’ve probably noticed that a common
theme among a bunch of these channels is
examining really old really bad games
for great comedic effect however no one
does this better than the Angry Video
Game Nerd oh no not this one tag and
dragon as soon as you notice the baby
blue colored cartridge you already know
it’s bad news Angry Video Game Nerd is
James Rolfe now as you probably gathered
by the name his most notable
characteristic is the unbridled rage
that he spews towards the games he’s
reviewing while he doesn’t swear
non-stop throughout the whole time and
he’s not completely insane he definitely
drops a few f-bombs and isn’t very nice
come on come on come on come on come on
you motherfucker you like some of the
other more humorous channels we’ve seen
today these reviews don’t really serve
as a buyer’s guide for recent titles
even if you could still get these games
in store it’s pretty much a foregone
conclusion that since they’re being
reviewed they’re definitely pretty bad
you can erase one pixel at a time this
is the worst thing ever it just sketch
is better than this and that doesn’t
even need electricity or Forks to screw
in your TV before we get to our top pick
here are a few honorable mentions
number one angry Joe show often our
number one pick on top X is something
that combines many of the elements we’ve
seen before into one solid complete
package
the angry Joe show is definitely one of
those Joe pretty much covers all the
bases and covers them well quick cuts
inside jokes different characters crazy
expletive rants and Triple A titles
alien isolation should be commended as a
damn fine horror game from a first
attempt at creative assembly normally a
strategy game company many reviewers
struggle to find the right mix between
personal opinion and objective analysis
while Joe is by no means objective he
definitely has found the right balance
between his own personal preference and
concrete facts I spent over 60 hours in
this world and I could have easily spent
a hundred just in my first playthrough
and I’m immediately excited about trying
the alternate pass and playing again
when you factor in how consistently he
publishes his videos to all the other
strengths we’ve just mentioned
he’s our solid pick for number one until
