attention idiots the lunatic on top of
this crab is only a Hadron enforcer
a weapon of my own design oh it’s the
walk all the astronauts are doing I
won’t be able to breathe in here you
won’t be able to breathe without it hook
up your air hose welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re counting
down our picks for the top 10 movie
spacewalks for this list we’re taking a
look at the big-screen scenes in which a
suited character is outside of a ship in
the depths of outer space whether or not
they’re actually walking died after
falling ah we’ve excluded scenes that
take place upon comets or asteroids like
deep impact and Armageddon though
Alliance patrol yeah that’s fine no
father and be forewarned a spoiler alert
is probably in order there is a moment
number ten oxygen tank to the rescue
destination moon with color-coded
spacesuits an obvious soundstage and
science that’s about as logical as a
Marvin the Martian cartoon this
spacewalk epitomizes destination moon in
all its retro silliness hey we’re stuck
up here we ain’t won when Luna hits a
roadblock the crew investigates the
spaceships halt using magnetic boots and
only seems that way
mater I’m back from traveling thousands
of miles per hour here in space all
comparisons are lost one member gets
separated and is pulled away by a
noticeable wire we mean gravity but
that’s nothing that an oxygen tank can’t
fix though all right while admittedly
cheesy by today’s standards this
sequence remains visually pioneering
considering destination moon was the
first big-budget u.s. film about human
space travel what are you going to go
get him I always got enough cake General
Patton will lose him toe number nine
Woody’s sacrifice mission to Mars I’ll
tell you what I’m not doing woody I’m
not gonna watch you die changing tone
entirely this scene from mission to Mars
is heavy on suspense and even heavier on
sacrifice you don’t have enough fuel
look I’m get me and get us back with the
Mars 2 crew tethered together
commander woody propels himself toward a
nearby module he doesn’t have the
smoothest landing though
Terry attempts to reel her husband back
in but she’s unfortunately a worse shot
than Woody listen to me god damn it you
have to stop and stop now as Kerry’s
fuel supply dwindles what he knows what
must be done although it’s a tragic loss
for sure
at least Tim Robbins had the good sense
to clock out before the film’s
disappointing second act
you
number eight star-lord rises up
guardians of the galaxy if you’re there
come get me I’m all yours up until
recently
guardians of the galaxy wasn’t the most
well known marble property after the
2014 blockbuster hit though
it quickly became a universal favorite
oh I’m sorry
hi I didn’t know how this machine worked
stellar action and comedy aside much of
its appeal stems from its involving
characters the film’s emotional
residents notably shines as Gamora faces
a lonely burial in space you’ll die in
seconds
[Music]
having stood around and done nothing in
the past Peter finally lives up to his
self-proclaimed title of star-lord
[Music]
poignant quiet and beautiful the scene
is wonderful on the eyes and we’ll pull
on the heartstrings
[Music]
number seven laser fight Moonraker
[Music]
Moonraker is often considered one of
double-oh-seven s most over-the-top
outings and you can certainly see why
here with a space station and lasers
galore this battle looks more like
something out of Star Wars than James
Bond
if you’re going to set a Bond movie in
space though why not go all out
utilizing impressive art direction sharp
editing and a record for the most zero
gravity wires in a single scene the
film’s climax manages to make a rather
ridiculous concept energized showy and a
lot of fun number six space jump star
trek into darkness
launching activation sequence on three
two
Star Trek has always had great
characters and ideas but has sometimes
come up short in the action Department
sir Curtis headed for collision at point
four three two captain there is debris
directly ahead
with JJ Abrams behind the camera
trekkers finally get the full package
whoa Jim you away of course I know I
know
star trek into darkness features one of
the franchise’s finest set pieces in
which Captain Kirk and Khan’s space jump
to the Vengeance worship don’t work on
my way back
Scottie be ready to that door all right
not only does the sequence look
spectacular but it also maintains a
perfect balance of tension and comedy
courtesy of Scottie from start to finish
this dive into space is guaranteed to
blow you away
sorry about that no way mr. Scott open
the door
number five fly me to the moon space
cowboys I care for lessons how the
mother works at her
Clint Eastwood Tommy Lee Jones Donald
Sutherland and James Garner were all in
their senior years by the early
two-thousands but they could still get
the job done we got three weeks to send
four old farts into space this is flight
school 101 stuff the same can be said
about their characters in space cowboys
who venture into space to stop a falling
satellite I don’t know about this the
objective of this mission is the
restoration of this satellite so let’s
get on with it okay I’m not getting this
crew killed as you included they plan to
push this out alike back using missiles
but Jones’s Hawk must go along for the
ride Spectre me off we’re almost there
frame with convincing visuals and a
powerful score Hawk goes out on a poetic
high note as he finally gets to visit
the moon in other words you
number four crispy cañedo sunshine set
near our solar system’s hottest spot
sunshine appropriately makes the
audience drip with sweat
as Icarus – shields are damaged captain
Canada and CAPA set out to make repairs
time review shoot things get
particularly heated when their ship
turns and faces the Sun while CAPA finds
a shadier spot cañedo sticks around to
finish up and takes one for the team in
a blaze of glory
like the rest of the film the sequence
is exquisitely rendered zealously
composed and makes you feel the Sun in
all it’s scolding splendor
number three assimilate this Star Trek
first contact we’ve had a change of
plans dude yet another Star Trek
spacewalk this scene takes Picard Worf
and Hawke outside the Starship
Enterprise during a Borg invasion the
Borg are most lethal enemy have begun an
invasion of the Federation Picard
attempts to disable the collective
species by disconnecting the ship’s mag
lock this to work
all three mag locks will have to be
released but it would appear that Hawke
has been assimilated Hawke luckily Worf
is there to save the day and delivers a
kick-ass one-liner assimilate this one
of the movie’s most complex moments to
pull off the sequence comes complete
with first-rate sets models and blue
screen technology
[Music]
ah
[Music]
it also exemplifies the film’s theme
regarding different cultures uniting
together to fight for a common goal
jean-luc if we destroy the ship we
destroy the Borg stay and fight
number two locked out 2001 a Space
Odyssey over the beador home just as
space can be cold and unforgiving so too
can machines open the pod bay doors hell
I’m sorry Dave I’m afraid I can’t do
that
in 2001 a Space Odyssey Dave and Frank
eventually see just how far how nine
thousand will go to preserve himself and
the mission this mission is too
important for me to allow you to
jeopardize it I don’t know what you’re
talking about how I know that you and
Frank were planning to disconnect me
losing faith in his conspiring teammates
Hal cuts Frank’s oxygen hose and closes
the pod bay doors on Dave I’ll go in
through the emergency airlock without
your space helmet Dave we’re going to
find that bother difficult the lack of
musical accompaniment and sound adds to
this intense exchange as Dave tried
reasoning with the computer Dave this
conversation can serve no purpose
anymore goodbye
Al’s actions may seem heartless but the
unsettling truth is this is just how
humankind programmed him to beef do you
believe that how has genuine emotions
well yeah acts like he has genuine
emotions um of course he’s programmed
that way to make it easier for us to
talk to him
but as to whether or not he has real
feelings is something I don’t think
anyone can truthfully answer before we
make contact with our top pip they must
try to mind-meld with it here are a few
honorable mentions
[Music]
Deb and Jamie hi I love you so much
[Music]
forgive you
I thought I was trying to do something
great for mankind you guys to help me
fix my leg
[Music]
number one debris hits the fan
gravity Houston I have a bad feeling
about this mission it’s hard to think of
a film that’s done a more authentic job
of capturing both the majestic beauty
and the hostility of outer space then
gravity met one thing can’t beat the
view the film slowly lures the audience
in throughout its opening sequence which
feels like one extended tracking shot
around the Hubble Space Telescope Walski
visual of debris and nine o’clock half
of North America just lost their
Facebook weather observed in 2d or 3d it
honestly feels like you’re up there with
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney the
sense of realism is what makes it
especially terrifying when a problem
occurs sending us on a non-stop thrill
ride
to carry you too far do you agree with
our list yeah
what movie spacewalk scene took you
beyond the stars
what stern did ask or not I guess will
give me some stranded astronaut or
something for more intergalactic top 10s
