you know there’s something wrong with
the film when you have to fight the urge
to watch it with your eyes closed you
gave them the tape welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re counting
down our picks for the top 10
soundtracks that were better than the
movie
for this list we’re looking at
soundtracks that compiled recorded songs
that suited the theme or style of the
film but whose compilations proved to be
better than the film itself while the
movies may not have necessarily been bad
their soundtracks overshadowed them and
have continued to live on apart from
them we’re excluding film scores so in
spite of all of the love for Daft Punk
the soundtrack for Tron Legacy can’t be
found pure
number 10 I am Sam oopsie contrary to
what our DJ’s character says in Tropic
Thunder the acting was one of the
highlights from this 2001 done everybody
knows you never go full retard but even
Hollywood heavyweights like Sean Penn
and Michelle Pfeiffer could not save
this wannabe Forrest Gump
that being said their performances were
not I am Sam’s only Jemez the soundtrack
featured a who’s who of great 90s
artists doing power songs originally
performed by the Beatles awesome ones
double macchiato little fat love foam
that’s a wonderful choice with a slew of
highlights such as Eddie betters you got
to hide your love away and rufus
wainwright s– across the universe
ah there should definitely be a spot in
your music library for this
grammy-nominated album number nine
Godzilla those were footprints right yes
they were anybody see what made him this
1998 entry cast a huge shadow on the
Godzilla franchise in fact fans of the
radioactive monster would have to wait
until 2014 to get some kind of reunion
reprise for their favorite city
destroyer
in the meantime they were left with a
rockin soundtrack gathering together
tons of 90s heavy grunge
highlights include a speaker blasting
cover of David Bowie’s heroes and some
of the finest from rage against the
machines Golden Age
number eight Nick and Norah’s Infinite
Playlist how do you guys like know each
other this teen romance definitely had
some lovable and quirky seeds and what
kat dennings and micheal cera bring to
their respective roles is at times quite
charming this is amazing
you are literally like my musical soul
mate it’s unbelievable so we’re all the
Cure in spite of that this rom-com drama
slipped from mediocrity into forgettable
miss mainly because it was weighed down
by a lot of cliches to get some drive
out again one thing we didn’t forget
though was the soundtrack which was
loaded with stellar indie jewels such as
we are scientists after hours and the
real Tuesday welds last words
number seven Elizabethtown I love you
Claire Cameron Crowe’s romantic comedy
fell completely into the quicksand that
all fourth rom-com drama DS do with too
much dialogue the film just kept talking
with nothing to say
so let’s good that you talk about it or
don’t talk about it well we have talked
about it instead keeping audiences in
their seats was a dynamic soundtrack
that proved to be more heartwarming and
endearing than the film itself
it was clear that the director knew a
thing or two about music from his work
in almost famous
and it may just been the saving grace
for this piece
number six Saturday Night Fever
though it was well-received it could be
argued that Saturday Night Fever
suffered from a lack of depth and a very
flat storyline on up that shit already
I’m bored I’m bored with her right and
today the dance film is most known for
that movie with the great BG’s tune
harnessing the growing power and
popularity of disco the 1977 soundtrack
went platinum 15 times that means it
sold 15 million copies in addition to
its popular Bee Gees recording the
Grammy winning album also featured work
by Kool & the Gang and KC and the
Sunshine Band looking that we make when
I decide alright
no other time nice this alright admit it
when you hear stayin alive you can’t
help but stretch just a little pour a
lot number 5 Batman Forever
are you yesterday’s news crews before
Christian Bale ever donned the cape and
grout Ford’s a Batman Tim Burton had his
own film series starring the Dark Knight
I’m Batman following two successful
movies Batman Forever marked the
downturn of the franchise as Burton went
from director to producer and let Joel
Schumacher take the directing reins the
car chicks love the car when Batman
Forever wasn’t corny to the point of
absurdity
it was marred by Chris O’Donnell’s
flighty portrayal of Dick Grayson holy
rusted metal Batman Oh
yet out of the dark chapter Rose a
skeller beacon of a soundtrack featuring
incredible hit singles such as hold me
thrill me kiss me kill me bye YouTube
and the now-iconic soul track kiss from
a rose by seal
number four Last Action Hero I’ll be
back although time eventually allowed
this film to attain cult status at the
time of its release Last Action Hero was
an unmitigated commercial and critical
disaster that not even it’s oddly
endearing premise could make up for you
just evolution has the entire history of
police training what the film lacked in
excitement however the soundtrack more
than compensated for with a thundering
presence featuring music from hard rock
rates like ac/dc and Aerosmith as well
as all metal act Alice in Chains the
soundtrack gets our hearts racing as
much as the movie should have
number three Garden State in an effort
to get out of the growing association
with his goofy scrubs character Zach
Braff wrote directed and starred in this
2004 film
trying to show off his heartfelt and
dramatic side he came off as trying too
hard and the result was a film
practically dripping with 40 melodrama
I want a wasting all my life value in it
okay yeah I think I can do this no I
want to you did do one thing right
though
as everyone knows what’s in the Oscar
bait without a good soundtrack you gotta
hit this one song and I’ll change your
life I swear containing a mixture of
fresh sounds like those of the shins and
Coldplay
as well as plastics like Simon and
Garfunkel
Garden States Grammy award-winning
soundtrack is still in our collection
long after we lost the DVD go teeth and
the curse was down
brawling
number two why light
not to jump on the bandwagon or anything
but it’s pretty easy to rip on Twilight
any cold wet thing I don’t really be it
for Kristen Stewart’s vapid expressions
or the misguided Dorian Gray asked
themes and cheesy vampires these films
are not just very well liked by anyone
that’s pulled enough drive by afraid
now it’s safe to say that they would
have been greatly improved had the
soundtrack lent some of its own epicness
to its parent film and rather hear your
theories aside from the fact that the
album features hit tracks by Paramore
and Linkin Park
we find ourselves getting lost in eyes
on fire by blue foundation and the next
day another no-show
before we rock to our top pick here are
a few honorable mentions
number one purple rate o Prince’s
soundtrack to the film he also starred
and has become iconic both of the 80s
and of the artists extensive and
inspired canon of work unfortunately the
same cannot be said for the film which
similar to Saturday Night Fever found
some commercial and critical success but
was really little more than a basic
attempts to catapult prints from pop
rocker to superstar
thanks to the vocal and songwriting
talent of the smirking Boy Wonder
however
Purple Rain soundtrack stands as some of
his finest work and still has us
grooving to this day
do you agree with our list people like
you don’t know it I’d like to get herded
because you know that how feeling which
soundtracks outdid the pictures they
were intended to compliment David Bowie
