bust however things get complicated
after Lennie accidentally hurts others
and breaks the neck of Curly’s wife
in order to prevent Lenny’s murder by
the ranch hands
George ends his friend’s life
number six George Milton George is a
migrant field worker who’s clever
despite a lack of education I must have
lost he never had none I gotta pose here

he’s Lenny’s guardian and shares with
him the dream of one day owning a ranch
someday we’re gonna get the jack
together and we’re gonna get a little
house a couple of acres a car chickens
pigs and rabbits go on George tell about
the rabbits in the cages and the rain in
the winter and the stove and the cream
in the nooks I think he can hardly cut
it with a knife
he’s usually cautious with Lennie
because he knows that his friend doesn’t
understand all that he should and that
he can’t always control his strength
just wanted to touch that girl’s dress
because it looks so nice and soft just
wanted to pet it like was a bird or a
rabbit and what you hold on for when she
started yelling her head off
wine shallot gold but he’s also hopeful
responsible and idealistic if I was
frightened I was even a little bit smart
I’d be having a place of my own they
bringing in my own Crocs instead of
doing all the work
and not getting what comes up out of the
ground George demonstrates his
compassionate side when he shoots Lennie
to save him from the angry mob I ain’t
gonna let him hurt number five
Lennie small both ends the same oh why
is both ends the same George despite
being a big innocent man Lennie is slow
minded and can’t control his own
strength

because his love for touching soft
things has gotten him into trouble he
becomes completely dependent on his best
friend and protector George after Lennie
unintentionally kills Curley’s wife he
becomes the target of the ranch hands
but George shoots him before he can meet
his cruel death number four
other characters candy Curley and slim
candy is an old one-handed handyman who
offers to chip in with George and Lennie
when they purchase their own land
since he’s attached to his old dog he
appears to be a passive character Slim
is one of the most appreciated ranch
hands on the farm and drives the mule
team he gives Lennie a puppy and is the
only worker that Curley actually values
as the son of the ranch’s owner Curley
is aggressive and jealous because of his
flirtatious wife why do you keep
pestering her he ain’t doing no harm
how do I know that his confrontational
nature leads to a fight with Lennie and
a broken hand

novellas main theme is friendship George
and Lennie worked together share the
same dreams and are loyal to one another
it also explores discrimination whether
it’s against race sex or mental capacity

independence justice and isolation with
the related theme of loneliness being
especially significant George and Lennie
lived lonely lives as ranch workers and
often have to move from place to place
